Congrats to the Miners on ending their seven game losing streak. The next game gets harder, however, as we go from playing the 2nd worst team in the league to playing the best team. Hoping for an upset, but I doubt that it will happen.

I think it'll be a close game because the Miners, for whatever reason, seem to match up well against Liberty. I'd be more worried about playing the Aggies.
And that’s the exact reason why I want UTEP to beat Liberty because it’s a better matchup for nmsu. That and it would be fun to have the deciding rivalry game in the tournament.

Let’s see what yesterday’s game does for the team.

It's starting to look a lot like last year... Hopefully Liberty goes down again! If UTEP can handle the onset of 3's in the first half, they have a decent shot at winning this game. I don't think Liberty is all that. Don't want to say it, but imagine a potential matchup with NMSU? lol

This is strange, but they're in UTEP's head and vice versa. Good perimeter D and rebounding. Good back door help and drop down to protect paint in 2nd half. McKay ball should be known by Golding by now.

I would sag off Cleveland, and defend Peter like they did with Wilkerson from SHSU. Cover Metheny with Terrell, and don't leave him. Post up Porter and Metheny on offense. This has worked very well in the past.

Not sure if that's true or not, however UTEP has nothing to lose, while Liberty is riding a 25 win season and has a lot to lose. You mentioned the Miners owning Liberty as of late. Another win over them would make 4 out of the last 5. One more would be great!!

The Miners need to play solid defense, create turnovers, take care of the ball, rebound well and not let Liberty shoot uncontested 3s. The Miners need to play a similar game like when they beat Liberty at their place.
UTEP 81
Liberty 78

Well said. That's the recipe.

I agree. This brief in conference series has actually been fierce despite Golding's lack luster 4 year run.

Why did McKay perform not so well at UNM but pretty well at Liberty?

Metheny has been a thorn for all CUSA opponents and always seems to get a second burst of mojo late.

As stated previously by someone, UTEP has nothing to lose. Attack, rebound & defend (perimeter).

Not exactly sure. Aside from 1 good season, that was as rough of a 5 year stretch as UNM has ever had.

I agree with you, but when has UTEP ever rebounded? They stand around and watch the ball instead of boxing out. This has been a huge weakness all year that has never been addressed by Bronzing. I don't believe all of a sudden they will start.

The rebounding issue has cost them a few games this year. Too many 2nd chance points.

Yep. He is similar to Jelly Walker (UAB), who was also a terror against other mid majors. You have make him work on defense to wear him out.
