UTEP vs NMSU

Golding has been here for 4 years and just got passed by a program that was completely shut down 2 years ago and had to start from nothing. Couldn’t even sweep NMSU last year and will probably get swept this year. That pretty much puts it into perspective on how slow Golding’s progress has been in a pillow fight conference.
If you’re not going to make an NCAA tournament, you sure as hell better best your rival. What the heck does a coach have to do to get fired?

I will add that Hooten was hired to do things the "right way" after the problems with Heier, etc. He was able to put together a completely new roster in two years that obliterated UTEP at home, and beat them last year as well. By all accounts, he has built his team the right way. What excuse does UTEP have now?

While I'm ticked off too, let's be real. It was a bad game. Frazier missed a dunk like a minute into the game. We couldn't throw it in the ocean from the side of a boat. NMSU hit 57% of their shots while we hit like 35%. NMSU was a step faster at every position.
Yeah, Golding should have changed it up, bench all the starters, do SOMETHING. It still is only one game and I would expect the guys to get their shit together.

Man, that sucked ass.....It was worse in person....

My wife asked if we should beat the aggies, my reply we have a better record but have played lousy teams. Golding and Senter schedule them cause they know we are not a quality team. Golding is way over his head and Senter is lazy. The Adam’s hire proves that. Other than Volleyball and the rifle team, what UTEP team has a winning record?
How much money does the rifle team bring into UTEP? How many people even know we have one?
Senter is a joke, and Wilson needs to do something about it!
Speaking of which, Miners lost to the Lady Aggies yesterday too. Keitha was 12-19 last year and is currently 8-6 this year, with 2 wins vs non-D1 schools.

But...but....Keitha is an awesome person and we did well a couple years before...

I love Keitha. I have had beers with her a few times. I didn't like the rehire of her.

Agreed. Retreads usually don't end up well. I was afraid of her tarnishing her image here.

She was absolutely sucking at Wichita St too.
I've watched them play quite a bit, and her team is pretty awful here. Very poor guard play, and just not a ton of basketball IQ. Maybe it is all the foreign players to some extent, but overall roster talent is lacking. Probably similar to WSU. I didn't like Baker, but he seemed to be able to bring in better talent.

Colon Deaver only posted 3 times during the NMSU game last night. No mention of halftime or final scores or even acknowledgement that the game even ended.

He’ll be back later in the week pretending the game didn’t even happen.
He will say something like UTEP’s NET ranking is holding steady at 160, and still better than Miami and some other ACC schools. Great progress in year 4.

Players and coaches can have off nights. I would turn the question i side out. Can anyone think of a game that Golding has won due to superior coaching

How did this team barely lose at Louisville by 3 and then get obliterated at home in a rivalry game?
Here’s the worst part for me at least. A good team and a good coach makes adjustments at half time. At home we should’ve came out like our hair was on fire 🔥. The fact that a still winnable game at half turned to an almost 30 pt beat down is what makes me question Golding and this team. What happened to us should only happen to a D2 school! No way this can be spinned! Terrible 1st half that’s one thing, but to be worse in the 2nd half in front of a sold out crowd is inexcusable!!! I’ll post again at the end of the regular season going in to the Conference Tournament. It’s pointless and as far as I’m concerned this team deserves to lose support until they prove that they merit the love of the fans of El Paso. Sorry, but you can’t lose to a team that’s not very good and your rival in front of a sold out crowd by near 30 and not expect a huge let down from your fan base!!! I’ve been patient with Golding, but unless he gets this team to the Dance by some miracle he should hit the road. You brought all your players back and this is the results you put out on the court!!!?

Collin could only find two things UTEP won on the box score so expect a complete break down of UTEP making exactly one more three pointer and making exactly three more free throws than NMSU for the first time since 1966 in the Battle of I-10.

It is just sad that UTEP lost the game last night for many reasons.

First, they get everyone to believe in the team. They sell out the Don for the first time in years. The excitement is in the air, and Miner fans have something to look forward, and they not only lose, they get beat down. A close loss and I would have been disappointed, but this is way more than disappointment.

Kane made a statement a day after the Miner Women Volleyball team choked away an NCAA tournament game being up 2 sets to none, and losing 3 in row, saying "Typical UTEP".

It just seems that he is right. I can't remember when any of the teams came through with a win they were not supposed to have. Louisville is an example of coming up short. We can name a bunch of basketball games where they came up short or just flat out layed an egg. The football team for the last few years, even when they had a decent team would drop that game that tested them. The Bowl games are always losses.

I am a UTEP fan, and it just kills me year after year. You want to believe, and of course support the team, but they seem to always choke or do what they did last night when the opportunity is there to finally get over the hump. This is all sports.

What is the solution? Some will say just keep blindly supporting the team year after year and I am guessing pray for a miracle change. Obviously that is not the solution, and attacking the ones that say anything else is one of the problems. I have said the Cowboy fans that do that are the issue because Jerry can just continue to do the same thing until the team is beyond being fixable.

I just am tired of always coming up short in any meaningful game in all sports. The loss last night just confirmed it again, and it does irreparable damage because it takes years to build up the backing of the team, and that kind of loss loses it in a second. Fans not supporting anymore and not coming to games is too damaging for the program. I don't want that, but change has to happen.

Im in my 40s so im just a little too young to remember 1980s UTEP Sports. But there have only been like 4 years I’ve ever been proud to support UTEP. 1992, 2000, 2004 and 2005. They’ll tease me with a big win here and there, but after so long this sh*t is exhausting.

2009 was a fun basketball season and 2014 was promising, but I understand how you feel. Our whole athletic program has been sooo far behind the curve for so many years. We never catch any breaks. It's like a bad gambler who never quits. It's depressing.

Yup. And in the last 20 years we can compare the two programs:

NMSU Football: 3 Bowls, 2 wins, 1 Conference Championship Appearance.
UTEP Football: 4 Bowls, 0 wins, not even close to competing for a Conference Title.

NMSU Basketball: 10 NCAA Tournament Appearances, 1 Win, 9 Conference Tournament Chsmpionships, 7 Regular Season Championships
UTEP Basketball: 2 NCAA Tournament Appearances, 0 wins, 1 Conference Tournament, 1 Regular Season Chsmpionship.

As it stands right now, UTEP has no business saying they’re better than NMSU and we are lucky we are El Paso because THATS why we got in C-USA.

At this point I wouldn’t trust Wilson, Walden and Golding to run a fake jersey stall at the mall let alone handle UTEP Athletics.

To be fair, the 2005 football team was 1 win away from the Conference Championship Game.

If a WAC Championship Game existed in 2004, then UTEP would have been playing in it.

This all lays at the feet of Wilson. She has shown zero interest in the athletic programs, like she really doesn’t give crap.
There are studies that support the value of strong athletics and the benefits and positive exposure it brings to schools.
Academic elevation is great, but so would be elevating the two major athletic programs. I’m tired of having patients and being mocked for how bad we suck every season.

Deaver is now paid by the university to be a hype man. Definitely will never hear anything but positivity from him.
He was supposed to give us an “edge” over other mid majors too!

Yeah I don’t expect him to talk extensively about a bad loss, but he could at least acknowledge it. He’s a lot like this board. Have some fans beating their chests over Tarleton St and Sam Houston wins, but don’t acknowledge losses like last night.

It could be worse and he can be like you.

UTEP wins- "their opponent sucks"

UTEP loses- you can't stop posting

The 2006 team was the best. That OT loss against Texas Tech destroyed the teams morale. I believe 5 or 6 of those seniors went to the NFL and we had the talent to run with anyone. Palmer to Higgins was an incredible combo and Marcus Thomas was a beast. Darn shame

He’s too busy touting the crowd size

By record they weren't the best, but I agree they were fun to watch. They stumbled and lost 5 of their last 6 games.

You're not a Miner fan if this type of loss shakes you. Over the years I've come to expect it. Just when you think the long nightmare is over they pull the rug out from under you. Thank you sir. May I have another.
