UTEP vs NMSU

Even Golding said he was out coached. After four years is that acceptable? Does that means he can’t coach better, or didn’t put in the effort for this game. Either way neither is acceptable. He won’t resign so he needs to be let go, if he can’t get this team to the big dance. I do not see the talent on this team to compete on that stage.
Senter hired him, Dimel, Terry, the soccer and softball coaches! He needs to go
As well.

This is probably the best team he could ever assemble. He was able to maintain a few players over several years and add a few decent players. Next year, most of these guys won’t be here, regardless of who is the coach.

Who is impressed with KJ Thomas so far? Ahmad Bynum looked pretty good until Saturday. These are the type of recruits he would get to replace Frazier. We will still be at the same level. Able to beat the bottom 150 of D1 and win home games in conference. That’s it

New conference; new leadership.

You're being generous. Frazier missed dunk 2 minutes in signaled the roll over. We were trash in the locker room.
I know. And that was just a bit of foreshadowing of what was to come a bit later. But then after the missed dunk, he went and hit back to back 3s not long after that.

There seemed to be a shift at about the 15 minute mark, I thought. It’s whatever though. They were not even near up to the task Saturday night.

Yep. I thought the shift coincided with when Carpenter entered the game. UTEP had no answers defensively for either Carpenter or Filipovity. Having both on the court forced Kalu away from the high hedge and into the corner. He had no chance defending Filipovity, but Golding has no other options at the 3/4 position, other than Jones, who was overmatched as well. Offensively, Camper is so inconsistent, and Bynum has regressed a bunch. Where is the guy who played against Louisville? He has obviously been scouted by opposing coaches, which is a big difference from JC ball.

Personnel wise, there is a lot to like about the group Hooten was able to hodge podge together. With 11 portal transfers, it took some time to gel, but there are some good pieces there. For Golding, you have to question his ability to either identify roster flaws, or be able to recruit to address those gaps. Either way, that is a fatal flaw. We already have a good idea how this roster would do in a conference like the MWC. The really discouraging thing is that this is probably Golding's ceiling in terms of assembling personnel. No bueno.

It’s just one game. The overall sentiment is what I have been saying. UTEP has a guy in his 4th year that can’t sweep NMSU. NMSU has a guy in year 2 that can blow out UTEP in front of a sellout road crowd.

Despite this, still have the cries of people accepting mediocrity and stressing patience. Hasn’t worked for us 1 time. Not once.
I don't think waiting until the end of the year is stressing patience. If and when we don't win the conference tournament, he can be let go immediately after. If that happens, we shouldn't waste any time. We need to have our replacement fast. I don't think Senter will be as swift as he needs to be though.

Parting ways right now doesn't really do anything. All the coaches worth hiring aren't leaving their teams midyear to come coach us.

Senter and Golding should have been gone last March.. i thought maybe he turned the corner a little with better shooters, but if Golding can't get this derailed train back on track and win the conference tournament he needs to go 100%. We have one year to buffer the move to the MW. I wouldn't let Senter choose the coach either.

Spot on!

I think we all agree Golding got outcoached, and has got outcoached many times. I still ask the question -- has he ever out-coached another? He's not good at recruiting. If he can't out-coach, what's left?

Senter should be talking to assistant coaches that can recruit right now, like Terry was during his first stint at Texas or Barbee at Memphis. That way when the season is over, a new guy can come in and hopefully bring with him some of the talent he had already recruited.

Senter won't do it though...

It’s only 3 games into conference play so let’s not panic just yet. The next test comes from this road swing which is considered one of the tougher ones due to the travel needed between Liberty and FIU. Liberty will be a tough one especially with their loss to La Tech. FIU is being a bit sneaky by purposely having the game on Saturday at an earlier time to not give teams much rest after the Liberty game. I hope for 2-0 I expect 1-1 and I would definitely question if the wheels came off the bike for a 0-2.

as the old saying goes."its never to early to panic."
Coach Golding has one foot in the exit door and other foot on a banana peel.
Last Saturdays game was a total bust and He acknowledged that fact.
I believe that Golding goes if he doesn't win the conference game.
But on the other hand, Its not how you start, its how you finish.
