Yep. I thought the shift coincided with when Carpenter entered the game. UTEP had no answers defensively for either Carpenter or Filipovity. Having both on the court forced Kalu away from the high hedge and into the corner. He had no chance defending Filipovity, but Golding has no other options at the 3/4 position, other than Jones, who was overmatched as well. Offensively, Camper is so inconsistent, and Bynum has regressed a bunch. Where is the guy who played against Louisville? He has obviously been scouted by opposing coaches, which is a big difference from JC ball.
Personnel wise, there is a lot to like about the group Hooten was able to hodge podge together. With 11 portal transfers, it took some time to gel, but there are some good pieces there. For Golding, you have to question his ability to either identify roster flaws, or be able to recruit to address those gaps. Either way, that is a fatal flaw. We already have a good idea how this roster would do in a conference like the MWC. The really discouraging thing is that this is probably Golding's ceiling in terms of assembling personnel. No bueno.
