UTEP vs NMSU

The 2006 team was the best. That OT loss against Texas Tech destroyed the teams morale. I believe 5 or 6 of those seniors went to the NFL and we had the talent to run with anyone. Palmer to Higgins was an incredible combo and Marcus Thomas was a beast. Darn shame
That 2006 team had a lot of potential but their downfall was their inability to run the ball. If I remember correctly they were one of the worst running teams in the country. Thomas only averaged 3.3 ypc and he had a little over 500 on the year. But that’s what made Price’s teams so fun and frustrating at the same time. He could score 35 but give up 42.

UTEP could loose all the games in their schedule, except for the two against NMSU. This one is on Golding, we can't build a winning program with him.
I agree 100%. That should be rule no. 1. Then we go from there. But at the same time if we are the Basketball School we think we are then 1 NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 years is unacceptable.

The top team in the conference is nmsu and we just got blown out at home by them.
Kind of joked about it on Saturday during the beat down, but a guy like Hooten may just be a solid replacement for Golding. He checks alot of boxes, and may jump at a chance to coach in the MWC. At the very least, if Senter had any clue, he would hire Moccia to consult on the next hire. 😀

Why don’t we wait and see how the season plays out before we throw this team under the bus. It’s one game for Pete sakes

It’s one game in a career that’s lasted 4 plus years. How patient do we have to be? Do you think he’s done a good job making 1 throwaway pst season tournament? Is that the standard we should have for UTEP Basketball because if that’s what we want then fine.

This is the issue. Not to single you out, but you will say this again next year and the year after that, as will a few others on here. This is the same reasoning for holding onto Mike Price and Tim Floyd for too many years. This is what Cowboy fans say every year (Next Year is the year).

This does not help. This is repeated every year. Just because the Miners may come out with a winning record at the end of the year is very small in the scheme of things. You have to put in perspective that we are in a lousy conference that is a 1 bid league. We are not doing well in it from looking at it for the past few years. We are headed to a much tougher conference, where we would most likely be in last place as our loss to San Jose State shows.

You have very low expectations, and not making the required changes just keeps this going on a loop. We just lost a game that we should have won. Those are games that you have to win if you want to go forward not just stay in the same position year after year.

Being a Rah Rah guy does not help. We gave Dismal an extension too quick and he ran the team into the ground. Bronzing is not improving the team, and you will see this when we do play those tougher teams on the road. UTEP has been so bad for so many years that you have gotten used to it, and are satisfied with mediocrity.

I spoke about those living in that bubble, and unfortunately you have been in it too long. UTEP needs changes, and being satisfied with the loss to NMSU, UTAH Valley and San Jose because they beat a bunch of other bad teams is only a recipe for disaster going forward.

So my question for you, is:
What would you be satisfied with this year?

I don’t think anybody is throwing the “team” under the bus, but rather the bus driver, CJG.

In year 4, the sold out NMSU game is one we’re supposed to win. The Utah Valley and San Jose games are games we should win.

It’s not like this is year 1 or 2. The team came wholly unprepared to play, and rolled over about 15 minutes into the game, which is on Golding.

We’ve seen the best of this team, and we’ve seen the worst of this team. You just never know which one you’re gonna get…which sucks in year 4.

Wrong — it’s a home game against your biggest rival and you got smoked.
It’s just one game. The overall sentiment is what I have been saying. UTEP has a guy in his 4th year that can’t sweep NMSU. NMSU has a guy in year 2 that can blow out UTEP in front of a sellout road crowd.

Despite this, still have the cries of people accepting mediocrity and stressing patience. Hasn’t worked for us 1 time. Not once.

There won’t be another sellout this season IMO. If I’m right, it will prove to be more than one game — more like a Waterloo.

Highly unlikely they will. Miners could win 12 in a row and the last home game has a 2pm start. Not great for a sellout, even if fans have interest the rest of the way.
