They have too much speed, size, and Herman is gonna be an ass run up the score.

Keep #33 and #12 healthy and get paid.

Texas 55 UTEP 14

We’ve only scored two confirmed offensive tds against Texas in our five game history vs them. 12 and 33 looked good vs an FCS team but have no idea how they’ll look vs a G5 or blue blood P5 team. Going with

Texas 56
UTEP 10

Anyone know each school's comparative athletic budget? We could predict score using dollars spent to points scored ratio. That would also indicate which school is getting the most bang for their buck.

UT - 52
UTEP - 17

Hopefully we come out healthy after this game.

Keeping with my initial thought of 52-14 The people predicting 77 and 80 are out of touch with recent college football trends. Texas Coach wouldn't allow it to get that high even if Utep is that bad. However I don't know just yet if Utep is as bad as apparently most people think. They may be just Pretty Bad instead of Really Bad this year lol

Ohio St beat Miami(OH) 76-5 and Maryland 73-14 last season. Notre Dame beat UNM 66-14.Bama beat NMSU 62-10. Really out of touch!

UTEP struggled at home against the worst team in the Southland. They are that bad until proven otherwise. Texas could beat them 100-0 if they really want to.

To your point no team has ever scored more than 58 on a Dimel team. He has played

@ 9 Ohio St
@ 12 Georgia
13 Air Force
@ 2 Tennessee
@ 22 LSU
@ 15 Texas
13 USM
5 Texas
@ 11 Louisville
@ 22 Georgia
@ 3 Texas
@ Tennessee
@ Texas Tech

I wouldn't say they struggled. They started off slow then dominated both sides, got turnovers, allowed minimal yards and if Dimel wasn't a nice guy it would've been 31-14. I like Texas too, but they aren't Alabama, Ohio St, etc... You're giving them way too much credit lol

From Orangebloods:

I can confirm Texas receiver Jake Smith is expected to miss the season opener against UTEP on Saturday due to a hamstring injury. 247 was the first outlet to report Smith's injury.

According to my sources, Smith's injury is minor. I was told if Texas was facing Oklahoma on Saturday, Smith would play. However, the Longhorns are not willing to risk Smith's long-term health against UTEP.

Instead, Smith is expected to rest this weekend and play against Texas Tech on September 26.

In addition, my sources inside the building told me Texas will likely utilize its 12-personnel against UTEP in Smith's absence. There is a lot of confidence in the tight end group, and it appears Smith's injury will give us an opportunity to see the Longhorns in that formation on Saturday.

Like I mentioned earlier. We’ve only scored two offensive tds vs Texas. One was by Vittatoe and the other by Jones. Those were good players. A td shutout is possible too.

A decent comparison for this years UTEP team might be last years Rice team. Rice had an improved team from the previous year, winning 3 games and very competitive in most of its games. The Owls lost to Texas 48-13, scoring 2 tds via the pass. The Owls didn't score until the 4th qtr and had less than 300 yards total offense. They trailed 31-0 at the half so obviously Texas took their foot off the pedal.

And Texas is supposed to be better this year and are #14 pre-season.
