Big 10 has been Midwest schools but don’t think Eugene Oregon is in MichiganNIU is not near any mountains nor is it west.
We would have one hanging if Jim Senter was AD at that time. He made rings for the boyz for losing in the New Mexico Bowl.Hell yeah! One of UTEP’s memorable championship runs. It’s a shame UTEP doesn’t have a banner to commemorate it. Maybe we should start up a collecta to have one made.

You’re forgetting the magnificent 2009 CBI runner-up season. Still waiting on that banner to be hung at The Don. 🤡
I learned this a while back. UTEP intentionally hold back tickets to create the illusion of high demand and make it seem like they’re selling out quickly. Then they gradually release more tickets throughout the week.
The MAC deal pays appx 2-2.5 million per team. Is the increased travel expense worth the 1.5 million? But they said they didn’t like the mid week games. In all seriousness, with all the departures, I don't think the MWC is better than the MAC in football. They are a step up in basketball, but NIU isn't joining in basketball. Maybe there really is something to that comment about the students being able to study on the plane, because it doesn't make much sense to me otherwise.

What should they have done instead?
I like Walden and I think he’s doing a good job. He did try different things last season, like switching QBs and RBs and trying different things on offense. Problem was when something worked he burned it to the ground. Will Walden let this dude throw the ball downfield? Or are we gonna just see this guy rifle the ball across the the field to the sidelines on screen plays every other play? Is Walden gonna try to justify this high school offense with a QB who can get to the screen faster than Locklear?
Mountain Wants to add another dog mascot to go with Nevada Wolfpack and New Mexico Lobos. Northern Illinois Huskies.NIU is not near any mountains nor is it west.
Which game film of his did you break up to give us this insightful post?Back from the hyperbolic "UTEP sucks at everything" commentary, I expect Malachi to improve:
-Efficiency
(a)Better third down efficiency
(b)Passing efficiency
(c)RPO run/pass read efficiency. "Keep the chains moving". The whole point of the RPO/Pistol. IMO, this is why Scotty went after him.
-Arm strength/accuracy
(a) For the past few years UTEP has had qb's with legs, moxy and cajones and one who literally fling the pigskin across the Sun Bowl (Hardison), but not one who could make good back to back split second decision and great reads
(b) Hardison could heave it to a well covered wr on a dime a times but couldn't complete a 3 five to ten without throwing a ninety mph fastball. He had zero finesse. It killed drives and that kills efficiency. Locklear had ok legs, and the determination of a fighter. However, he just didn't have the athleticism needed at even this mid major level. McConnell, too. Both had an ok arm but neither were the most accurate.
-Field General attributes
(a)Always aware of time, clock and timeouts. Coaches FUBAR sideline management. Dimel was horrid and Scotty was not a whole helluva lot better.
(b)Can read defenses well. Sometime the best thing to do is take the sack or throw it out and play another down. With UTEP, our qb's would force an errant pass leading to INTs.
(c) Leadership. The "its on my shoulders" attitude. Players in the huddle respect and listen.
-Expanding the playbook (for whoever calls the plays). Great QB's make their OC and HC look good when things look not so good
-The obvious, (he will) sell tickets early. Fannies in seats is a cash cow driver for FBS right behind conference streaming/TV contracts.

That’s exactly what I’m talking aboutI’m talking about sustainability. There’s a really really good chance UTEP will never sustain it because of history. If Walden wins and moves on, time for the next guy to come in a win ASAP. Not wait 4 or 5 years to appear in the NM Bowl.
Just to play devil's advocate, you do have a legit point. Let's take Boise St vs UTEP and why I pick these two. A color commentator pointed out during a BSU game some weeks back that Boise has built upon the legacy of legendary coach Dirk Koetter who HC's there from '98-2000 (who just announced he is officially retired after a 42 year career) and he was a coach at UTEP early in his career. Both schools went in opposite directions. There was a Lee/Bailey/Nord/Kugler (played under Stull) UTEP connection but it did not yield much success but to mirror Koetter, Boise has become the best mid major in college football.I’m talking about sustainability.
