Kaplowitz: Which Jersey Should UTEP Retire Next?

Of the 7 players whose 5 numbers are retired, I believe 6 of them are in some form of Hall of Fame.

1966 team -Lattin, Flournoy, Hill (Naismith)
Richardson (Naismith and college)
Hardaway (Naismith)
Archibald (Naismith and college)

The only one who isn't is Barnes, who was a #1 overall NBA pick and won a gold medal in 1964.

I like a lot of the mentioned players, but to retire a number should mean something more than "he was good and I liked him"

Kaplowitz: Which Jersey Should UTEP Retire Next?

I really liked JS, but jersey retirement? The only player I’ve ever witnessed being worthy of it is Tim Hardaway.

Some of these other guys are UTEP greats…but not great great.

In my opinion, both should be a requirement. UTEP great and considered great by those outside of UTEP. Just my own .02 worth.
I specifically said NOT jersey retirement for any of these guys. I totally agree with your argument.

My point re Stone is just if you’re talking about greatt players he should be in the discussion. Probably the best PG since Hardaway. He didn’t score a lot but had a 2:1 A/TO ratio as well as amazing D.

I may be out of sync with everyone here. I'm not sure about retiring any of these guys numbers. Honor? For sure.

How is Julyan Stone not on this list?

Exactly. That’s the point that seems to be overlooked. It’s obvious CUSA is a one bid league. Aside from the anomaly year, which this isn’t one of them. However, come conference tournament time, not sure I’d feel overly confident playing any of the top 8 teams.
Exactly! Any of the top 8 teams in CUSA would probably be the best team in any of the low mid major conferences so excluding MWC, AAC, MVC,WCC and A-10. MAC and Sun Belt I still think any of the top 8 are competing for a championship and probably number 1. Any other league one of the top 8 are winning. I think the Utah Valley was an anomaly and Utep would win 7 out of 10 times against them. I also think if Utep were to play San Jose St. now we would win. However all that doesn’t matter and Golding will be judged on making the tourney. If he doesn’t we have to make a change to a coach that can recruit to a higher level before going to a league that will have a better shot at getting multiple bids.

Yes, learning about the struggle of the Tuskegee Airmen was hurting too many white people's feelings. I guess?
How is teaching their story to future airmen a bad thing?
I'm not even sure how to respond to your first comment. It's sounds like you have a negative sentiment towards a certain race? Interesting given your side of the arguments on this thread.

I think teaching future airmen (or anybody) about the Tuskegee Airmen is good. The Air Force should include it without any mandates.

Being left out or segregated because of race, gender, sex or region is wrong in my book. Being forcfully included only because of race, gender, sex or religion is wrong in my book as well.

I don't care who is fighting for my freedom as long as they are willing, trained and well prepared to do their job. When it's life or death, anybody would want the same.

The moral of the argument is that yes it’s a one bid league as I stated. The unfortunate part is it’s probably the most balanced and tough the league has been in awhile. The reason why yes it matters, is because Utep will have a battle week in and week out and the Tourney’s any of the top 8s to lose.
