I'm sure if he waits a little longer he will get more offers. It's still very early.. I don't think he sticks with this commitment.
The benefit of signing early is what if they get hurt and other offers dry up? Besides, they can always decommit later on. Are letter of intents even enforceable now?
Nearly every year I see 4-6 guys who signed or committed to lower level schools early. And then when they had a good year, they decommit or ask for a release or whatever and then sign at higher levels.
