Analysis: Scotty Walden's Year One was rough, but foundation was laid

Dang Walden’s recruiting is so good that players don’t even have a resister a single stat to make it on the CUSA all freshman team.

There’s a big difference between being a nice salesman and producing results. I’m pulling for him though. Only time will tell.
Billy you’re absolutely right. How we results have already been seen. Utep is recruiting at a higher level than ever and the NIL has already been tripled since when he arrived. Next is for the results on the field obviously!

I’ll say this first. Without a doubt, Malachi Nelson could be a huge bust. But looking at it in perspective, he should be a major upgrade from who we have.

He wasn’t going to beat Dillon Gabriel out at USC. It’s not crazy that he didn’t beat Maddux Madsen out at Boise State either. Madsen passed for 3000 yards, 23 TDs and only 6 picks, in a very run heavy offense. He fits the BSU system well.

Considering who MN’s competition is this year, no one even comes close to Gabriel’s or Madsen’s abilities. Nelson was a consensus 5 star QB, emphasis on “consensus”. Unless he turns out to be the biggest poser ever, he should perform well at this level, provided he has some good/decent receivers. I guess I should add that if he’s a head case, which is possible, that could be a major hindrance, too.

After reading fan forum comments from the BSU site, most had good things to say about Malachi Nelson. They didn’t want him to leave, but understood his decision to transfer. Madsen’s style of QB fits BSU’s offensive scheme the best. Nelson is a competitor and believes he should be a starter somewhere. Again, this will be a great opportunity for Nelson to not only win the starting job, but to show that he is a quality QB. He could be a total bust, but based on his pedigree you have to give the guy a chance.
