Dana Dimel passes away

My birthday brother is gone. The life of his family has changed in an instant. It’s a sobering reminder to appreciate every moment. He faced a lot of criticism here, much of it undeserved. Yes, he lost games, but this program has been losing for a long time. In the end, life is so much more than football.

I remember months after getting hired seeing him at EPIA with his big smile walking out of the luggage terminal doors. He was a respected American football coach, even at the highest levels with some football analysts stating Dimel taught NFL coaches the effective way to run the "tush push". No, I have not verified if that is true. When I heard analysts state that, I knew he would land successfully back on his feet and the college world would hear his name again. We did, he landed at Illinois.

I mean this respectfully, but I will never forget when he got hired and UTEP fans everywhere collectively asked "Who the F%!# is Dana Dimel?!". He made sure we would not forget him. "Golly, Gee" burned in our memory.
