Did they overlook FAU?

No, not at all. Hardison forcing passes and false starts have been happening all year. Offensive line is huge, even the FAU commentators were commenting how big they were.

No, FAU has won the conference and been to multiple bowl games in the last few years. They are good and UTEP stood nose to nose with them. Defense did a solid job containing their speed, but a lapse or two with their kind of team speed is deadly to any team and that did us in. We played a good game of keep away, but it just wasn't enough in this case.

For some reason UTEP always tends to lose focus and let teams score with very little time before halftime. That TD really Ouched!!!

The Miners are what they are. A great defensive club that is bad on offense. The final score flattered the Miners but these guys can not afford to be down anything over 14 points because it’s game over. I stand by what I’ve said earlier that Hardison is our Geoff George, great arm but a bad decision maker. The turnovers, penalties and not to mention the way The Miners closed out both halves were too much.

Were the Miners overlooking FAU? I think there’s a chance. Fans and the media were so preoccupied with this College Game Day/UTSA talk when they should have been more concerned with breaking their East coast losing streak.

Once again penalties and turnovers. Until they can control these they are going to have trouble with good teams. If we didn’t turn the ball over and have silly penalties we would have won this game.
Dimel was upset how bad the officials were. Bad officials are not responsible for covering the end zone with a few seconds left. Bad officials were not tripping up on shoe lace tackles or getting beat off the line on a run play nor throwing into double coverage.

UTEP was the better team clearly last night but better teams don’t make silly mistakes and make the plays their supposed to make.

But that‘s the thing, UTEP wasn’t the better team or else they would have won that game. There were too many mistakes on both sides of the ball and once FAU got that lead it was going to be next to impossible for the Miners to claw their way back. Did they say anything about Cowing, because that guy took some bad hits as the game wore on. Hardison set him up to get killed when he threw that jump ball in the 4th and he’s the one guy that they can not afford to lose.

Clearly better team? Not in CUSA there is a lot of parity, maybe UTSA is the best but between almost all teams there is not a lot of difference. Comes down to match ups, coaching and breaks which include the officiating. The simple reality is we have a football team with enough talent, coaching and confidence to beat anyone in CUSA. We likely won't win all of them, but we are capable of doing so. We didn't win yesterday, then again we didn't lay a egg like we have in the past. On to UTSA!

I agree 100% with this and add in the missed field goal and the defensive lapse to end the half. The Miners beat themselves last night and I agree with Dimel that we were the better team on the field.

The Miners are good enough to overcome a lack of production from the offense, but they they’re not good enough to overcome everything they did wrong yesterday.

So I stopped watching after UTEP was behind by 18. I see they lost by 3. Were the last two TDs a legit comeback, or garbage time gimmes by FAU?

All that College Game Day talk was for nothing. Miner fans and the media made their own distraction for nothing.

Yeah, it could have happened but my issue is the fact that people were hyped about this possibly happening when they should have been more concerned with the fact that UTEP has never won on the East coast.
Fans couldn’t have done anything with the game yesterday. The “East Coast Curse” is just because mostly bad teams have gone and played there. It’s not luck, or a curse, it’s just a funky stat. If UTEP played at UConn or UMass every year, the stat would be gone soon.

Tulsa is 3-5 and has no realistic chance at beating the #2 team in the nation. I don't think we were ever under real consideration. It was a nice grassroots movement but that's it.

It wasn't only miner fans some people on ESPN even said it was possible. UTEP BLEW it by losing.
But that was unnecessary hype, pressure or whatever you want to call it. At the end of the day people were looking two weeks ahead instead of focusing at the task at hand, breaking that East Coast streak.

Two incredible defenses in a brawl. Those 25 points are the most a team put on FAU since week one (against Florida on the road), and a missed field goal is the difference in the game.

A lot may lament UTEP getting it going too little too late...but they were in this to the end, and they never gave up. Heck, fans on this forum in this very thread gave up on the team before the actual team gave up.

Really sucks to lose, but I respect the shit out of the this team and the heart they showed against a very good team on the road when they were a 2 score underdog.

I'm very bullish looking at the UTSA game at home.

When you said, “people were looking two weeks ahead…”, are you talking about the players/team?

You’re not suggesting that fans looking two weeks ahead had anything to do with this loss, are you?

Otherwise, how do we know how dialed in or not the team was to the task at hand?

????????

Me too. Wish I'd stuck with the stream. Might have to catch the replay tonight.
Maybe the best part is that they didn't fold and give up. That is a step in the right direction.
I just watched the last 6 minutes of the game. Impressive. If that carries over to the UTSA game I think we can pull it out. I loved that last play with the lateral and pass behind the line. Now that's a trick play.
They fought until the bitter end. The coaching staff is doing a great job.

They did make a legitimate comeback. They had a long TD drive and after that TD, they had an awesome onside kick that Flores recovered. Then came Hardison bomb to Smith and add in a successful two point conversion. They tried another similar onside kick but that one failed.

I appreciate Dimel being a tiny bit more aggressive on the offensive play calling, but that missed "long" field goal should have been a punt or just go for it on 4th. FAU took us out of or slow locomotive, build momentum pace and it messed with our game.

I disagree. The ball was on the 25 yard line, so there is no punt option. I think if you're on a hash you may go for it. But it was dead center and a no Brainer to take the points given that our kicker is solid. He missed, it happens.

Ref were bad across for both teams. Running game was non existent. Relying on long passing game isn't going to be consistent. I did like that tight end screen for a touchdown. Defense played good enough to win but offense missteps hurt UTEP bad. The one good thing, they didn't roll over and get blown out.
