GMU hasn’t been to the NCAAs since 2011 and they hired Tony Skinn this past offseason. His first head coaching job. Brought in 10 new players. Currently 12-2 and 1-0 in the A10. Have had 4 home games with under 3,000 in attendance. Have road wins over Toledo and Tulane. Only has 1 non-D1 win.

How is George Mason able to bring in new players and win in year 1 with a first time coach, but we are in year 3 with an experienced coach and suck ass?

Another successful mid major basketball team to watch is James Madison. Although known as a football school, their basketball team is pretty damn good. They play in the Sun Belt conference, are 14-0 and ranked 19th. Mark Byinton is in his fourth year as HC. The team struggled his first two years, but showed great improvement last year and are currently undefeated. They have some solid wins over Michigan State and Fresno State. Byinton signed a six year contract that pays him $375k per year plus $75k in supplemental pay. JMU got a steal with him! Meanwhile, UTEP pays Golding $700k for mediocre results.

Yes, that is great for them. Like FAU last year, they don’t have the expectations and pedigree that UTEP has. If UTEP wants to give someone $350,000 and is fine with taking 4-6 years, then they should adjust their coaching salary next time.

Paying Bronzeing more than other mid majors, tells me, they expect to win and do it faster than someone making half. If not, then they are running a charity and are only interested is providing a bad product to its fans.

Mediocre? At this point I dream of being mediocre. We are 5-7 against D1 teams, and only 2-7 in our last 9 games against D1 teams. We're paying $700K for garbage, mediocrity would be a step up.

George Mason won again yesterday to go to 13-2 and had less than 3,500 in attendance. What would our attendance be for the next game if we were 13-2???
