Golding needs to go

I don't think anyone is on a wagon right now. I haven't seen a Walden fan on here, everyone is just waiting to see.
After reading the threads, it’s clear the bandwagon is full. I used to be a hopeful optimist, but UTEP has turned me into a “prove it on the field first” skeptic. Now, I automatically assume we are who we’ve always been. Plenty of people are preaching patience and hyping up recruiting classes, but I’ve heard that throughout my entire UTEP fandom, and rarely has it ever panned out.

I am the same way. We were supposed to win CUSA Championships and NCAA Tournament games with Terry’s first cream of the crop recruiting class and look what happened.

Agree 100%. The bandwagon has a way of building up any tiny bit of positivity into a championship. We all want to be competitive, not to mention championship contenders, but we can't even make it out of the bottom third in a lousy conference.

I'm tired of the second rate, let's catch a coach "on the way up" and hope for the best, budget hires. Give me the guy that might have some baggage but has proven he know how to recruit and coach.

That’s the thing though, Terry and Bronzeing weren’t “budget hires”. Senter paid them more than their previous job. It’s time to go back to hiring assistants and if they leave after 2 years, that’s good. That’s means they were moderately successful.

UTEP spends way too much money on this program to have them lose games like last night.

For football, that’s absolutely the right approach. No more one hit wonders or unproven names. We need coaches with a track record of success at the FBS level. These proven coaches are out there getting hired at G5 schools and achieving results for salaries similar to what we offer.

For basketball, it’s time to move on from the past and stop thinking we’re a big bad basketball school that can buy out coaches from other programs. Instead, we should return to our roots, where we’ve had the most success post Haskins, by hiring up and coming assistants who don’t command the same salary as our football coach. That extra money could be better invested in our football salary pool to strengthen the athletic program overall.

I was never a big Golding fan, this off season, I like their approach to engage the fanbase, but this disgusting start, throws that out the window. Senter needs to go first, then Golding. Name one coach, Senter brought in that has truly panned out? Perhaps Wallis, but that's it, in the major sports, Senter is terrible! You cannot go into the MWC with Golding or Senter! Walden's hopeful saving grace will be his recruiting, and hopefully he brings in an offensive coordinator to run the show... He is worse at play calls than Dimel.

My point being, spend a little more and get better coaches. I don’t care what they made at their previous stops. Pay the right coach the right money.

That’s not the answer. We need a lower paid, first time head coach and roll the dice on him, like we did 20 years ago.

Yeap. First time head coaches. 3 for 3 making the NCAA Tournament. Overpriced head coaches 0 for 3 making the tournament.
Was a different time, but even if the coaches are mediocre, you’re paying less for the same results Floyd, Terry, and Bronzeing gave you. UTEP would still probably get their 3,000 fans a game too.

You’re right on that. Instant transfer market wasn’t available so making the NCAAT in 2 years or less wasn’t possible, oh wait.

Slight correction, we're 3 for 4 with first time coaches (you forgot about Rab), but here at UTEP we definitely haven't had luck hiring experienced coaches
Forgot about him. Even he won an NIT game by year 2. We’ve had 14 years of Floyd, Terry, and Golding and can’t reach that level of basketball.

If Sucky Walden goes 3-9 next year, the same fans that love to lose will be screaming patience again.
Hey stop that negativity man and you’re right we are screaming patience. Remember Dimel only won one game his first year, Walden has two wins already baby!!! only a matter of time before Senter and Walden leave us for Alabama to turn around the struggling Tide we have to enjoy them while we can and stroke their balls on this forum like the Publisher on this website does.

Once Walden hires a Director of Creative Strategy for football, UTEP will win the MWC and make the college playoffs. Be patient guys and Picks Up.

UTEP played so hard and was only down three after a 21-6 run. Go follow Colin for the game
Recaps to see how hard and close this team is from turning the corner.

Let's be honest. There's not a category of coach that's been successful here. Retreads without baggage (Dimel), retreads with baggage (Price), up and coming assistants (Nord, Lee), alumni (Kugler). Hell, I think we hired one of our forgettable 70s coaches from Permian. We're just a black hole.

Maybe we need to start focusing on middle school coaches. I'm sure there are a few out there that have a comparable recruiting and NIL budget.

Price was successful, but it was the same mindset that eventually led to his downfall. The “let’s be patient and give him more time” approach that resulted in seven straight losing seasons. We should have recognized he was in decline and moved on much sooner.
