College teams and players dont care about the bowl games. Only bowl games that matter are the playoff games. Players will just transfer now so there is no loyalty anymore. Pickett didnt even want to play in the Peach Bowl and that is a pretty good Bowl game. Miami basically just decided not to come to the Sun Bowl. Players are quitting and transferring before bowl games.

Why watch or follow college football now? How can the NCAA make the bowl games matter??

Pretty sure Tim Tebow warned of all this in recent years and was attacked relentlessly for it. NCAA is no longer amateur athletics

Out of the transfer epidemic will come some stability due to necessity. Maybe not next year. But soon, as enough people realize that it is not sustainable as it is.

I really think the G5 needs to step away from the P5…maybe even the NCAA. Scholarships might have to become contractual and binding. I don’t know.

Maybe so, but make no mistake, even cfb is on the decline.

i think the problem is the bowl games. College Football needs a real playoff and i dont have a problem with the transfers. Plus we all know that players were already getting paid. I remember walking through Utep a long time ago and i saw one of the basketball players driving a Benz. Maybe this could hurt the NFL?? Players might stay longer??

I'm with you on the playoffs. A minimum of a 16 team playoff could be a huge benefit to postseason participation. I personally like to see them do something similar to division 2, with 28 teams.

Miami had Covid. They didn’t handle the opt out well at all but they had it. This is not a credit card contract for five hundred dollars that some blow during a weekend over Natty Light. These bowl contracts are serious business and you better damn fulfill unless a plague hits, which is exactly what has happened; names, towns and millions are riding on the line.

Players could opt out for years. McCaffrey opted out against OU v Stanford at the Sun Bowl game if I remember. Now you can for Covid reasons and future job reasons.

Dust will settle but a few will not spoil the bunch. The few is those who want more of whatever and the bunch are the kids who are grateful to play FBS level and like Dimel reminds us, there are always JUCO’s looking for a home.

At least half the Alabama roster will go on to play in the NFL. Why are they risking their future playing in a meaningless bowl game today, and most likely another game on January 10th? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

So you think there's no difference between playing in the Sun bowl and playing in the CFP? Their game

Which player was that? Cedrick Lang?

None whatsoever. They’re destined for the NFL. If they’re 1st round draft picks, you aren’t improving your stock anymore playing in meaningless bowl games. Why didn’t they opt out?
If you ever get a chance to talk to a college football player, ask them if winning a championship would mean anything to them. Most likely, the answer will be Hell Yes!

A meaningless bowl game was more exciting than either playoff game. I hope the Ohio State QUITTERS who opted out on their teammates don’t get rings or any other accolades. Only those who banded together and EARNED this hard fought victory at the Rose Bowl deserve the glory and recognition.

but who has made the most money??
So that’s your entire basis? Money? Well, Tebow was a first draft pick and had a nice contract in Denver and likely has a very good deal at ESPN. Still baffled you think he’d give up two national titles and a Heisman to have the career of someone who choked in the playoffs

Well said

You think Tebow had a better career than Romo??

Are you slow? No one ever said that. You said he would trade his heisman and national championships to have Tony Romos career of (essentially) failure. It was a laughable statement but typical for you
you did . Are you slow??

Why you think players are always selling super bowl rings?? Those things are worthless to players. The goal to every player is make as much money as you can. This is what i say is important to every pro athlete.

1. Make as much money as you can
2. stay healthy
3. play in a nice city
4. get good stats
5. winning

Anytime you use absolutes, you are absolutely wrong. I highly doubt Tim Tebow will trade those two championships in the Heisman just so that you can have Tony Romo money.

NCAA is no longer amateur athletics

I am sure the NCAA started for amateurs, but it stopped being amateur athletics a long time time ago. The SMU death penalty? The NYU Basketball scandal? Heck, the money available at the collegiate level is so much that the high school level is at risk as well. The AAU model of bball is all about finding the best talent AND loopholes to direct that talent to where there is money to be made.

The amount of bowl games is ridiculous, but there was money to be made. Tickets to be sold, tourism to sell. Eventually a balance will be found, just like the NCAA tournament has increased in size so too will the CFP increase. Money talks...
