Looking ahead to Louisville game

Yes, that was 2009. We went to the NCAA tournament that year. Do you really think this team is on that level?

They were also 6-2 going into that game before OU. They lost to NMSU that season.

Yes I remember there was a time when losing to NMSU was considered a bad loss. Especially that season. Didn't Utep have high hopes that year?
Currently, losing to NMSU is a bad loss, which UTEP has been doing every year.

UTEP did have high hopes and they made the NCAAs that year. Didn’t matter they lost to NMSU.

Well this team also has high hopes and had bad losses just like the team in 2009.

Ok Fili. Put your helmet back on and don’t hurt yourself

Wasn't that Barbees 3rd year?? It was his most complete team. This is Goldings 3rd year and some people have said this is his most complete team. I do see a lot of similarities with both squads.

Stone is Terrell
Culpeper is Bynum
Williams is Frazier
Polk is Camper
Moultrie is Kalu
Character that's the only player Golding is missing.

But I do think Goldings bench goes deeper than Barbees.

That 2009-10 season was Barbee's 4th season, and this is Golding's 4th as well. NMSU went 22-12 that year, including 11-5 in conference. I doubt that Utah Valley or SJSU will come close to that. From your list of players I might take Frazier over Williams, the rest of Barbee's players are head and shoulders above their counterparts on this year's team. Comparing Golding's 4th team to Barbee's 4th team is ridiculous.

I think it's a fair comparison. It took Barbee years 4 to win with his complete team. Lets see what Golding can do with his deepest team. I do think Golding has a deeper bench than what Barbee had. Does Barbee make tournament that year without Character??

It is fair to say that in four years Golding should be able to achieve the same degree of success that Barbee did in his four years. But it is extremely unlikely to happen. That Barbee team wouldn't have lost to the likes of Utah Valley and SJSU. And that player by player comparison you put up falls further apart when you admit that there is no corresponding player on this year's team that's comparable to Caracter, who was the best player on that 2009-10 team. And no, I don't think that the 2009-10 team makes the Tournament without Caracter.

I’m 50/50 about that concept. Then it was “accepted” that it could take 4 or 5 years to build a good team. That is just unacceptable today. Barbee had the benefit of a better CUSA, but that also meant he played “better” teams. UTEP received an at-large that year and didn’t really beat anyone.

Bronzeing does not have the “advantage” of being in pre-2013 CUSA. He has an advantage of turning over his roster every year though. The quality of UTEP player is worse, but so is the competition. Because of Tim Floyd, Terry, and himself, expecting a NIT/NCAA quality team is a distant memory.

I think it’s a little unfair to expect Barbee results for Bronzeing. UTEP basketball is a shell of what it once was.

When the schedule came out, 99% of UTEP fans expected to lose this game, so if they lose, no big deal, since we expected it.

Even if they only have “7 players”, those 7 are probably better than our top 7.
Well they have 9 scholarship players available and will probably play 7 unless it’s a blowout and probably all 9 which are all probably as good or better than any of our 9.

Didn't you state some time back that Golding could win the national championship and you would still want him gone?

Second, Golding has underperformed, no doubt about it; however, NMSU is a shell of what it once was.

lol, no. Show me the post of me saying that. UTEP will never win the natty again, ridiculous to believe it’s remotely possible.

Agree. Frazier and Bynum are the only guys that get a whiff (with McCulley redshirting) compared to that starting 5 with Polk 6th man, but still not starting Frazier over Williams IMO.

You know if Utep wins, you'll comeback and say Louisville wasn't at full strength. You will do everything possible to downgrade the win.

I think Terrell and Stone are about even. Camper and Polk are even. Culpeper for now is above Bynum. I would take Frazier over Williams and I would take Barbees bigs over Goldings bigs. But I would take Goldings bench over Barbees.

Depends on how their season goes. The game will mean absolutely nothing if they finish 10-21. UTEP shouldn’t be blown out tonight, anything else is whatever. Beating teams that aren’t good is a regular occurrence here. The problem is, losing to teams that aren’t good are also regular occurrences here.

How many assists is Terrell averaging? Stone is all time in assists and 2nd in steals.
