I feel Richard Pitino is a good hire for UNM (even if he is a "Dick, Jr."). He had a winning record at Minnesota--not exactly a Big 10 powerhouse--with 5 NIT wins and 3 NCAA appearances...

I thinks it's a terrible hire. He was 54-96 in the Big ten. His last name got him the Minnesota job. He's done nothing to earn another d1 job. The poor bastard was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.

UNM basketball is a mess, and I don't think the Pitino name is going to fix it. They seem to repeat the same mistakes over and over. Alford was the only guy who had success and he couldn't wait to leave.

True, but with UNM like a lot of institutions in NM, the athletics situation at UNM goes far beyond local, state officials often make decisions and cronies are always involved. In UTEPs case the state doesn't get involved directly if at all. UNM athletics is a classic case of a dog chasing it's tail.
