The 2016 quarterback competition starts tommorow. Metz has a big opportunity to establish himself as the leader in the clubhouse going into the spring. His physical skills have never been in question. The big question is his mental makeup, can he shake off the nerves and play with confidence. The last time we saw him he was mentally fragile. He knows this his last oppurtunity to prove he can play qb. I think we are going to see a confident driven Metz with something to prove. I expect this game to be very competitive. La Tech may be walking into the perfect storm.

I hope you are right, otherwise it's going look a lot like a scene from Forrest Gump with fans shouting "Run Forrest, Run!"

I would love for you to be right about how competitive the game will be but if all the injury reports are true it will be very tough for UTEP to stay with them.

I wonder about the qb situation next year since Simpson is gone, Leftwich has had 2 concussions and may be done. That would leave Metz, Johnson and McEachern plus Torrez as a true freshman.

I really hope I'm wrong but after his performance against lowly UTSA I have very little confidence in Metz.

Tech has big recievers, Dixson and Driskel. Never say done but this is one of the best CUSA teams in 5 years....yes, even better than Marshall last year.

This is classic trap game for La Tech. Tommorows game has no effect on the western division race. It will come down to next week when la tech faces usm regardless of tommorows results. We play much better at home. This team is close and they will play hard for seniors. When things are the darkest this team has responded.

Metz is the wild card. His last starts were embarrasing. He like any other athlete is proud, he knows hes playing for his future at qb. He's a wounded animal and they are always the most dangerous.

Kudos for your prediction. UTEP was not only competitive but looked like the better team. One missed field goal difference. Next season belongs to UTEP.

I will almost guarantee you, Kugler brings in a JC Transfer or D1 Transfer eligible to play right away at QB next year to compete for starting job. Leftwich gets banged up too easily. His heart is willing, but his body can't stand up to the hits on a consistent basis.

Sadly for Leftwich given the sever concussion in the NMSU game and the ODU one appears to be sever as well. 2 in a season and you may be done playing contact ball. The kid had heart and he has a good skill set, our running game just seemed to be smoother with him at the helm and he was not turn over prone. Only his size was the issue and he looked to be overcoming that as well.
