Chris Barnes a scholarship for the 2016 season. I thought we were set at guard and what we needed for next season were a couple of big men. Grade on ESPN 59/1 star and on rivals he is a 2 star player. This is a head scratcher for sure.

Good find RT!!!

C'mon aren't you guys use to this by now, this isn't a head scratcher . All this means is the staff thinks he's better than someone on the roster or someone is being asked to take a long walk on a short pier (as usual). This is standard fare for CTF and his staff. Maybe they are offering a walk on spot, who knows. What we do know is this isn't unusual.

Lol. While I get your sarcasm develman, I have to admit that this doesn't make much sense to me either. Are you sure, Tuscon, that the offer wasn't extended before the Cameron and Barrett signed? And is he for sure in the 16 signing class?

Edit: Just looked and he is 2016. Also, verbal commits has him with one other offer, from mighty Portland State! He did get some good press as being a main reason why his Compton team is undefeated. Maybe somebody is leaving?

My point being that under CTF the state of flux with the roster is a constant , specifically his over singing of players.

I don't know, I think the current guards are excellent singers. Not American Idol quality but they make music to my ears.

UTEP is not alone in the revolving door of scholarships year-to-year. My son is being recruited and it's abundantly clear that most school's offer is a year-by-year gig.

It is true that Scholarships are year to year, but that doesn't make coaches GM's and in a position in which they are releasing players and signing players. If you remember, one of the reasons cited for Barbee's firing was that he had signed something like 28 players in 4 years.

If you look across the landscape of college basketball, it is common to see departures and transfers. But Floyd has taken it to record levels. It is abnormal to sign 50 guys in 6 classes. Recruits and their parents envision a 4-year education with a Degree at the end, as unrealistic as that may be this day and age, that is what coaches say in living rooms.

I don't get this offer at all. Our first commit to 2017 is also a Point Guard in Kobe MaGee.

Not sure if Thik Bol left here with an offer, but JaCardo Hawkins has one offer and that's from UTEP. Don't forget the other recent offer in Norbertas Giga. Furthermore, Kelvin Jones is not on scholarship. We are at the scholarship limit.

I am of the opinion that the reason alot of our recruits have one offer is because word is getting out to parents and recruits that if you sign with UTEP, there is no guarantee that Floyd won't pull your scholarship and you will be scrambling for a new home.

I could be wrong but I think Tim Floyd has had better luck with 2 star recruits than 3-4 star recruits and how they have turned out someone can look that up for me

Barbee wasn't fired at UTEP. He took the Auburn job.

Yes, I was referring to being fired at Auburn.

"From the start, Barbee had problems retaining players and building continuity on his roster. In Barbee's four seasons on the Plains, 12 players either transferred or were dismissed, Barbee signed 21 players in his four signing classes at Auburn."

Hmm, 12 players transferred or dismissed in four years. Signing 21 players in four classes. These numbers seem rather small when compared to what we've seen here at UTEP lately.

at least some of those issues were not with Barbee. Auburn refused to admit several players even after they were cleared by NCAA. Prompted Barbee to say that if he'd know that situation, "I might still be at UTEP".

His biggest embarrassment was with Verez Ward who was implicated in point shaving. Incidentally, Ward has a recruit while Barbee was here at UTEP.
