Miners have Really improved their PR campaign

It's an EXHIBITION GAME, it doesn't hurt the program in any way, it brings an Exhibition of higher College American Caliber Basketball talent to the public, that's probably all it does, just entertainment. What really doesn't benefit the program is to play Utah Valley, Northern New Mexico and UTPB. I hope I answered your question.
If you reread through my comments I mentioned it doesn't hurt. Thanks for answering this time.

It’s not hard to promote Sul Ross. You could have $1 hot dogs. $5 tickets. Some other kind of promotion. But nope, it’s full price tickets and full price concessions at the moment.

Does that mean it will be successful or it will sell out? No, but it’s the effort. Instead, it’s the same old UTEP playbook.

Tickers are $9.15. Having them at $5 really isn't going to move the needle.

Have $1 tickets and $1 beer and it will get people to show up.
This could have been the once a year game at Memorial Gym. 🏀

I have zero interest trading a game at the Don for the coliseum.
Unless you’re attending every single home game and walk to the games from Kern Place, I don’t see how trying something different, one time, is that bad of an idea.

There’s 3 non-D1 games, they’re going to be sparsely attended. UTEP could host one of them at the Coliseum. Some fans will still go, maybe some other fans will go because it’s something different. Would it work? I don’t know. UTEP could do all sorts of special things to make a normally drab game, an event.

Worst case scenario is that it’s a small financial failure. It’s trying something different. The atmosphere at the DHC is closer to the opera than a big time basketball game now.

Why would you play in the coliseum, I don’t think that would draw 1 extra person. In fact I’m sure many of the seniors who attended the games would not go,

I’m not even saying it’s a home run idea. Doing the same thing over and over isn’t doing UTEP any favors. Just saying, they have possibilities to spruce up their home games. But yeah the DHC looks pretty cool with 3,000 fans in it now!

For me it's not about any of that. Not that Don is a modern day 5 star facility but the coliseum is an absolute dump.

If you're looking for something different, I would like to see something like this in Fort Bliss. I think they have a a small gym that they can pack 1000 soldiers in. This could maybe attract some of them to attend some real games. This could yield more potential than the coliseum in my opinion.

It was real cool when Arkansas and Texas played at Fort Bliss.

Check out the empty seats vs USAO. Nothing better than watching a game at the Don with 10,000 empty seats. Great atmosphere.

The solution to that is get a better product on the court and get opponents that are attractive to the fans.
Unless UTEP goes on a “Gonzaga” type run or has tremendous luck, that’s not happening. Even when Floyd was here, UTEP was lucky to get 8,000 for non-conference games. Which is still “only” 2/3 full. They still scheduled bottom D1 games then.

There’s really no difference to the majority of fans between UAPB and USAO. I know the difference and you know the difference, but most people just see - shit team. It also costs about $25k more to bring UAPB than it does USAO. So its more advantageous for UTEP to play these D3 teams.

Unless UTEP is going to sign home and homes with MAC, MVC, and others, the schedule will remain shitty. Power teams won’t come here, especially since UTEP is mediocre. I just don’t see them getting better opponents, unless a miracle happens.

Look man, you crap on bad ideas all the time. You had a bad and people are returning the favor. You admitted it wasn't a great idea but rather something different.

I don’t care if anyone liked it or not. Just giving an idea of something UTEP could try to make a mundane game more interesting.

74-70 UNM.
We shot 29% from 3, but 85% from the line,
12 steals

Frazier 21 points (4-6 from 3)
Hamilton 10/5 in 11 minutes
Jones 4 pts with 2 blocks in 11 minutes
No Mbengue or Wickware

UNM started tha game 11-0
Joseph for UNM had 16 rebounds and their two starting guards had 36 points.

UTEP kept it close. Still believe we’re better off playing these tough road games than hosting d3 teams. Too bad it’s just an exhibition.
Hey, this is the first year of Sul Ross’ provisional D2 status!

I mean probably. That’s why you take the teams one year at a time and shouldn’t expect any player back.

Also why did he post this is a thread about the basketball team????
Also, why saving redshirts is pointless. That strategy might have made sense in FCS football, but Scotty needs to adapt to FBS. There’s no reason to hand the next school an extra year of eligibility.

Eh. This forum (with thousands of posts from various UTEP sports) is technically a football forum.😉
