Grand Canyon is a great addition. St Mary's would also elevate basketball. Is that wishful thinking? Or has anyone heard anything about this?
Wishful thinking probably. Though GCU officially moving could change their thinking. I still believe they would rather stay with their current setup than associate with UTEP and San Jose St.

Sour Grapea and there’s no Gonzaga, so they are not what they used to be!
I don’t know about sour grapes, probably just upset they’re not going join, just a few months after doing so. GCU is a polarizing school because of their academics and recruiting - of normal students.

If the PAC-12 doesn't call, they have a big choice to make. Do they want to run a conference and have an easy pass to the tournament in a one bid league or do they want to go to a potential muti-bid league?

If they go PAC 12 that’s literally a Major Basketball League with 5 or more bids a year! Right now MWC looking like a 2-3 bid league, so still a step up for Utep.

I’m not sure, but they should. Especially when they have to add Texas St.
Yeah I think the only reason that Texas St. didn’t go to the MWC is because the PAC 12 may still come calling. If I was a betting man and I am I’d say this is how it looks rn.
St. Mary’s Basketball only 25%
Toledo/NIU Football only 50%
Tarlenton St/Sac St. 30%
Sam Houston St. 20%
Texas St. 10%
Other FCS School 10%

2-3 bid league is currently what they are. To keep the status quo they need to leave the WCC. Grand Canyon may have just broke the WCC dam after Gonzaga created the first major crack now that I think about it.

I don’t know if Texas St would even leave to the MWC if the Pac was a non-starter.

St Marys is either Pac or stay to me. 5% at best to MWC. Pac has more attractive schools with Gonzaga. MWC has no private schools. Even though GCU is “private”, they have 100,000 students, not exactly the student body of a typical private school.

I assume you mean Tarleton St/Sac St? I gotta believe one of them is the backup to the MWC not landing another football school. Very unlikely they take both.

No chance for SHSU/TexasSt

Unless some network goes absolutely apeshit and likes pissing away money.

Absolutely thrilled with the addition of GCU. This is a fantastic addition. Just add one football only school and call it a day. I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out for UTEP.
And what a quick surprise. The possibility was announced of joining the MWC and 3 days later it was a done deal. What a change of fortune!

I doubt very seriously they base their decision on UTEP. Just another post by you to denigrate UTEP.

I wish the pac and Mwc would just merge .. that would be fun… I know it won’t happen but…

Also I am hoping moving to a better conference will help recruiting…
If PAC ads Texas St. and there were two 8 team Football Schools and two 18 team basketball schools there would be 6 or 7 NCAA Bids coming out of this league and probably a guaranteed NCAA Football Playoff representative each year. However like you said it probably won’t happen.

They would not base their decision on UTEP and that’s not what I said. If you don’t like what I have to say, you can ignore my posts.

And that’s why they’re in the lowly belt and crap USA.
Let’s be real, Liberty has far too much baggage otherwise they would be courted by the ACC/B12. Sun Belt is also a significantly better league than CUSA - there’s a reason ODU/Marshall etc jumped ship when they did.

I also don’t understand the St Mary’s stuff. The WCC are all small west coast private schools and St Mary’s is in the driver’s seat to get the yearly auto bid. Makes most sense to call up Sac St then Tarleton but I have also seen rumors of the MW calling up the Dakotas and Montanas.

I’m not sure about that. Big 12 and ACC have poached from other P5 leagues. Yes the SB is better than the worst conference in the nation. Not really saying much.

However it doesn’t matter, because CUSA got the money and representative in the New Years Bowl lol

Agree. That would be two easy wins year one for UTEP in the new MW. Oh wait........
I’m not advocating the MWC to add both, just one or the other. If it were up to me, I would just add NMSU and call it a ****in day.

To your point though, yeah probably lose to both of them, and would for sure lose to NDSU too. Probably 80-0 if Walden is still coaching in 2026.

Are those FCS schools still better than La Tech?
Fvvvvvvvvvvvvvvck no. I would take LaTech too, but I personally don’t think it makes sense for them. Remember they’ve been there, done that in the WAC when Hawaii was there with them. Just don’t think it would be appealing to them.

I think it's appealing to them but I'm not sure how appealing it is to MWC. Everyone wants out of CUSA except the schools that can't afford to leave.

If they’re apparently willing to add schools from Ohio, Illinois, and North Dakota, I am sure they would take one from Louisiana. Could be a football only issue and LaTech isn’t interested in that.

I disagree about CUSA. Sam Houston is probably better off with eastern schools and other FBS move ups. Would the teams rather be in other conferences, yeah. Doesn’t mean they necessarily are dying to leave CUSA. Same could be said about any other G6 school too.

NDSU Football only would be an Absolute Win for the MWC, that’s all I know!
Outside of pulling a current FBS team other than NMSU, I don’t know if there’s any “absolute win” to get. Seems a bit biased to me.

Nope Absolute Win! NDSU would start off like James Madison and would be a Boise State in 10 years! Absolute Win, Period! I just didn’t think it was really going to happen, because I didn’t think they wanted to make the jump! Best option so far except for maybe Texas St. However now after getting Grand Canyon for Basketball this would be a great move and no more moves would have to be made for awhile. If they do this I think an overall pay out of 4-5 million per team would be realistic.
