OPT: UTEP at UCSB

This was a good win away from home. Way to bounce back after that Utah Valley debacle. Let's get get consistent now. Nice job miners.
Nice win but Golding needs to work on crunch time management. He waded into UTEP football time management coaching in these type of games.

Thought Kalu would have developed to become a beast under the boards by this point in his career.
I think he could be in a regular man to man defense. This team misses Z too, but he would have been in the same boat (at least playing though). I think Jones best fits Golding's D, but he's undersized for a center.

I dozed off watching the game last night, those late starts in the CTZ are tough when you’ve got a 5 a.m. alarm. Waking up to see UTEP secured the road win was a great way to start the day! They looked in control while I was watching. Hope is back on the rise. Did UTEP ever trail during the game?

Never trailed, led the whole way. Other than 0-0 obviously

Utep had control the entire 40 minutes. Utep had scoring droughts but they weren't insanely long ala last year. Barnes, Bynum or Frazier would make a play to stay ahead and turn momentum. Something that has been missing from the Golding teams the previous two years. Hopefully it's a sign that this team is different.

This win gives us some hope after the embarrassing loss last week. The Miners never trailed in the game. UCSB cut the Miners lead to four, but that’s as close as they got.

Exactly one year ago we were optimistic beating this same team at the DHC. This was a good win from a good cenference opponent.

After last week's UVU blowout and UTPB outrebounding by one lead legged opposing D2 center I am kidding myself by imagining Senter telling Golding "what the heck was that?!".

We shot better, a higher percentage, from 3 than from inside the arc......said no Miner fan the last 15 years. But it's true. OFIII played like a man. Bynum got hot when we needed him to. If Barnes can increase his FT%, I like the ball in his hands down the stretch.

We got out rebounded by 17. Won the steal battle that CJG seems to rely on. Major foul disparity. It's not like UCSB didn't hit their FTs either. 80%. Pretty solid win. However, temper expectations. Just talking to myself outloud.

I would love to see Golding play straight up man to man or a trapping man to man. I think it would help bring out the best in our bigs with rebounding and defensive scoring %. The hedging is a gimmick defense and could still be used for periods of time when appropriate (but Golding would have to be able to get out of it quickly when it gets burned).

Put Barnes, Camper, Frazier, Jones and Kalu out there. Bynum, Terrell, Horton and Hamilton off the bench. Frazier can play 4 if we go small.
