What does a chef appearing on a cable show do for El Paso? Seems more of a personal opportunity for him to me.

Maybe start a “Notable El Paso things, but barely news” thread and put your junk there.

It’s been showing first run movies there. Was an AMC theater. Not sure when they stopped doing the $2 movies.Damn, when my kids were little that was the place to see Pixar and Dreamworks movies on a budget.
Sticky floors, it was a crisp 18 degrees, and unlimited refills.
Haven’t been in years but definitely the end of the $1 movie experience.

If they started showing first run movies there it's no surprise that they're closing. The allure of the place was that you could take the family for a cheap day/night out by seeing a movie that had been out for a while. You didn't mind the poor quality of the theater due to the bargain ticket prices. But if you are going to pay first run movie prices to watch a new release, you're going to drive to the next exit down the freeway to Tinseltown. It’s been showing first run movies there. For sure. Things have changed. All the studios want their stuff on digital ASAP to prevent piracy, but it’s changed a lot of ways we view movies. For me, there’s no urgency to go to the movies anymore, as I can wait 6 months and watch the movie at home. You can even rent movies a few weeks after they release for like $20. Pretty good deal unless you’re viewing alone. If they started showing first run movies there it's no surprise that they're closing. It's too bad that they don't have any dollar movie theaters any more in El Paso. They don't have any here in San Antonio either. I guess that streaming likely did them in.
Certainly for those who prefer to watch movies at home the current speed at which movies appear on streaming is a great improvement over the way things used to be. I, however, really enjoy watching movies on the big screen. I typically rank movies into one of four categories: I want to watch it immediately in the theater; I would prefer to watch it in the theater, but there's no rush; I can wait to watch it; and I don't want to watch it at all. For movies in the 2nd category, or movies that I had already watched soon after release but loved and really wanted to see again, theaters like Montwood and Eastpoint were the perfect places to watch them. I'm sad that the era of discount movie theaters has come to an end.For sure. Things have changed. This what I'm talking about. Look at that view of the Rio Grande. A restaurant or resort would be nice there.
