Practice is cancelled

I'm starting to get the feeling we have already seen the last game of the season.

All it takes is one to initiate the snowball effect. We’re actually just starting to see it on some of the high school teams in my area.

Or instead of an outbreak, could it just be that since we moved next week's game up to Friday and also added travel(to Midland), that practice was simply cancelled today due to the fact that they probably just lost their scheduled day off for next week.
Giving them the hours off today, might allow them to make up for the extra hours now needed at the beginning of next week. There are guidelines for how many hours can be practiced over a certain number of days.

The team testing has been on MWF, so any outbreak would have had to of happened with yesterday's test results and the team practiced after testing yesterday which would lead one to think that the results were fine.

I was about to pull the trigger on the utsa tickets earlier this morning. Going to wait and see what happens now.

The test results don't come back till later in the day. At least 8 players practiced yesterday and got positive results later in the day.

Either u really have the inside scoop and that just hasn't been released yet and will today. Or, you made that up. I hope its the second one, but who knows.

Let me guess, Steve didn’t call you and tell you this news personally so it must not be true.

It was told to me when I was attempting to watch practice yesterday. I thought it would have been made public by now, but it is absolutely true. The practice was cancelled because the players spoke up about not wanting to practice till more information was know about test results.

Ok. Let's take it as truth, but a second is done to confirm. Second, can they stay behind and quarantine or will it diminish enough that it's better to cancel?

So why are u so quick to call out what was inaccurate, but don't bring up other posts I called before they happened. Terry's hiring for instance and most recently saying that we should play in Midland at Grande Stadium when the N. Texas cancelation was announced. I can go on and on throughout my 15+ years on this board. However in this case, if you learn how to read and comprehend, I didn't say that it wasn't true, did I? Please take your time to read before responding, Thanks! Don't be a Troll Bruh 😒

If so, that sucks. Again I didn't say you made it up, just that I hope its not true and nothing has came out and today was another round of tests, so we'll see what we hear from Dimel.

If there were to be 8 positive tests then I dont think the game can proceed.

It depends who was positive. If its Walk ons we're good. If its guys spread around across several positions groups we're good. If its four or more scholarship players in any one position group we're canceling. If there are two positive qbs we're canceling.

Lol. Congrats on the Terry prediction and on suggesting we should play in Midland. That’s an impressive list!

I read it and understood it perfectly. I for one don’t hope people post’s are completely made up. That’s why I like this board cuz it has reliable UTEP information not found in other places.

Nothing yet, if we don't see anything by early tomorrow Game On in Midland!
National media off all stripes reports El Paso as the "epi-center of Covid 19 for the U.S.".

If UTEP's makes it to Midland it is short of miracle and I think Dimel does deserve some slight compensation, even if they don't win out, under "negotiable" mitigation contractual obligation. We are seeing another side of his humanity not seen in most FBS college coaches.

FWIW, I am listening to the Dana Dimel show right now and he just explained the practice schedule changes for this week and he has not mentioned any Covid caseson the team. After so much practice without games recently, he said that they are seeing a need to try and break-up the monotony of practices by changing the schedule. This included cancelling yesterday’s practice and also moving today’s practice from this morning to tonight. They said that they are going to start practice tonight after the radio show ends. He also said that since they didn’t have a game this past weekend, that they practiced more physically than normal, so that was another reason to give them yesterday off. So maybe he is just covering something up, but this is what he is stating.

In regards to the UTSA game happening, he said that UTSA also tested today and they are expecting all of their results by tomorrow. It sounds like tomorrow will be the deciding day as to whether the UTSA game will happen or not.

We can argue whether or not Dimel is a good coach or not but what he has done this season with COVID is amazing. The fact that UTEP has made it thus far without a positive test is crazy.

So no outbreak?

Nothing official has been said, but if you read this article about last night's practice, it looks like people were missing. No one that plays regularly though.

Sounds like the uncertainty is more on the UTSA side, but we'll see?

CUSA coaches insisted to play thru, then play thru if the practice squad is all healthy and "key" starters are quarantined. Some of these CUSA coaches (not Dimel) are flaking out because "key starters" and/or "critical positions are lacking"; that's a foo foo pile. Do your protocols, quarantine players but if you can field a team with practice players, then so be it. You made a stink in the summer and got your state leaders to push that (FBS) play must go on then you "Carry On", hypocrites.

You never know which practice players will shine? In 2015 Kugler was down to a practice rb against La Tech, TK Powell. He ran for 137 yards.
