Golding will not be fired. As a matter a fact I’m hearing it wasn’t even in the cards. The 7 game losing streak was downright disgraceful with the talent coming back. We all can agree this team underachieved. Heres the problem. Senter doesn’t judge on NCAA appearances or Conference Championships. He sees it as, if the team is competitive and graduating players, ok cool here’s an extension! Senter might not even be a Utep Miner Fan for all we know. It seems like he’s just scraping by doing the bare minimum to stay employed. Golding is simply a Microcosm of a Bad AD. I don’t have faith in Golding next year unless I seem some quality transfers coming in. Even then I have limited belief in him. Montgomery is a quality kid coming in, but will be a freshman and not ready to lead. We need quality D-1 not D-2 transfers! I will donate $500 to the Collective in hopes that enough Miner Fans do too and make a difference! This will be the last and only time I do this if I don’t see Drastic Improvements!!! I’m tired of complaining, so I’m gonna do what little I’m able to and hope that we can attract some real talent. I’m going into next year expecting the worst and hoping for the best. It’s easy to complain, but at least for now I’m out of breath. Joe, since you’re staying apparently, prove all of us doubters wrong and start recruiting better and then try and out coach someone for God Sakes! I for the life of me can’t understand how this team almost beat Louisville on the road and beat a good Yale team, but folded in Conference play! Anyways he’s staying so we gotta suck it up and hope for the best or whatever smh 🤦🏽

Not me I won’t give a dime the clown AD and nice guy but horrible basketball coach JG. Why would anybody in their right mind give one stinking penny to this trash AD and and a coach that we’ve seen up close and personal and know he can’t coach. The only thing we as supporters should be doing is canceling our tickets and not giving a dime to the basketball collective that’s what I’m doing and as long as Jim Senter is in charge and doesn’t give a crap neither do I.

No use in throwing any more money at the basketball program until changes are made.
If Golding stays next season it will be a sacrifice just to UTEP can save money. The only consolation is that Senter and Golding will be gone by this time next year.

I used to have expensive season tickets. For the past few years I just pay $91.50 and sit anywhere I want.

If the plan is to get rid of both of em before joining MWC I’m all for it! My donation is based on the future of UTEP Sports and our NIL becoming more competitive not to support of Golding or Senter to be clear!

I’m not convinced that Golding is out of woods just yet. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense for either party to go into a 5th and final year. The 4th year of his contract ends August 31st. So, starting, September 1, Golding is Coaching without a buyout. He can be fired right after a bad game. It doesn't make sense for UTEP to not just pay the buyout now before August 31st because starting September 1st he is on his year 5 Salary which is larger than his current $350,000 buyout.

The buyout is just such a relatively small amount at this point in his contract. If they let him Coach next season and do not renew his contract, they will pay him until August 31, 2026. And the new Head Coach will be getting paid his pro rated Salary from the time he is hired in April until September 1, 2026. Paying 2 concurrent contracts has gotta be more than the $350,000 buyout. Its probably cheaper to buy him out than to let him stay.

So everyone has already said all the other reasons why it doesn't make sense to keep him, such as roster overhaul, CUSA to MWC move, the struggles of the season, etc..... but financially, there isn't a good reason to keep him.

I don't get it. I would actually understand giving him an extension. (Not really) but an extension is actually smarter than throwing this poor guy out there for what is essentially an interim campaign.

Schools that pay the same or more, don’t want him. Schools that pay less, he would be stupid to quit and go work there right now. When you have a coach that nobody wants, the contract is irrelevant.

Golding would have to pay $250,000 if he leaves prior to August 31.

You're assuming we have a functional athletics department. That's probably a pretty big assumption at this point.

Well I haven't been to a UTEP game since 2011 so I guess I don't have to worry about losing money on a losing program.

It really is sad and pathetic the hand we've all been dealt as UTEP fans.

Troll, cheerleader, in-between, we all love the Miners enough to check this site, read or write posts and find various levels of giving a shit between disappointments.

It's bad enough being bad, but we happened to get the pussiest-run athletics department in the country... that rarely puts us in a position to at least give our best shot.

We could all talk about being done, but we know at minimum we'll at least check the scores and tune in from time to time. Say what you will about faiweather El Paso fans but most of us that care enough to be here deserve better... and Senter will never give it to us.

F.u.c.k. that guy.

When a loser with a loser mentality and loser standards and expectations prospers and has all of his financial needs met what incentive does he have to adapt, change and excel? He has no incentive at all.

BOYCOTT UTEP ATHLETICS. THE MORE YOU SUPPORT WILSONS AND SENTERS GARBAGE THE MORE OF IT YOU ARE GOING TO RECEIVE!! THEY DONT CARE AND THEY HAVE NO INCENTIVE TO CHANGE IF THEY CONTINUE TO RECEIVE YOUR SUPPORT!

I’m with you. I stopped going to games years ago because then product was so bad. I’ll gladly suffer through awful UTEP football because it i me what it is, but UTEP is not a basketball school.

I am surprised you were allowed to post this. I criticized the woman's basketball program (objectively) but all three of my posts were deleted by the moderator. Apparently he or she is friends with Keitha. Pathetic. UTEP just keep recruiting untalented international players and ignores solid players in her own backyard. The formula worked for a while (during your first go around) but it's not working anymore. Get a new plan or move on. As far getting quality D-2 players it's difficult. D-2 Coaches are vindictive and mean to players who try to leave. Once in the transfer portal these coaches try to ruin your playing future, so if your a good player trying to move up or to a better situation, it's difficult at best. D-1 coaches are not required to make contact with the previous coach of the player if they were D-1. This only applies to D-2 and below, which makes no sense. Why would a previous coach talk good about a player that is leaving their program? It doesn't make sense for the player. Those non-D-1 coaches can really screw with a player if they want to with no consequences. They literally can say what they want. If there is some kind of disciplinary or academic issue it would be documented. But most coaches take the word of another coach without question.

Volleyball too. Definitely not a men’s sport
Rifle, Volleyball maybe women’s Golf ⛳️ We’re not even a track school anymore. We’d be better off dropping football and basketball for Baseball and Men’s Soccer at this point. I jest of course, but yes Basketball has fallen to obscurity and it is really sad. There’s honestly no reason Utep couldn’t be the Gonzaga of basketball over the last 20 years since Haskins. Spokane is a harder place to recruit than El Paso, it has been in a mid major conference and it didn’t even have the history we did. What they did do is get the coach right and put all the resources to keep him!

They’re planning on knocking down some of the track seats at Kidd Field to build more student housing. Track is an afterthought

Without a football team, it's easier to put all resources towards BBall
