Here is the current state of UTEP athletics:

- Football is winless, arguably the worst D1 team in the country, and has had 11 losing seasons in the past 12 years.

- Football attendance at its lowest point in recent memory.

- Basketball finished last season with a 15-17 losing record. Currently have another losing record this season.

- Basketball attendance at its lowest point in recent memory.

- Women's Soccer finished with a losing record of 8-11.

- Softball finished with a 12-36 losing record.

- Volleyball finished with a losing record of 6-22.

- Women's Basketball finished with a losing record of 8-21 and lost at home to a Division 2 school last week.

Basically, every single Program outside of Track and Field and Golf is currently coming off a losing season and performing miserably. The attendance is turning into a distaster as well, yet they want to hire an inside guy to keep these results going? Basically the #2 person who is currently responsible for this terrible group of results has a chance to be promoted?
With these terrible results and the poor overall state of our program, how on earth is Chris Park even a serious contender for this job? Only at UTEP I guess.

Because El Paso and UTEP are so unique — outsiders just don’t get it.

Is UTEP willing to risk going off the cliff because they hire within? or do they think Park (if hired) can do a 180? or do they care?

And what if he does turn things around? Boy do I remember Barbee getting bashed on here and yet every year the team improved. Nord got bashed on here relentlessly because he pulled bone head stuff. Yet was fired and Price had success with his players and now Nord wasn't so bad?! Please.

CTF recruiting is insane and predicated on god knows what? But I hope they win and set up for success come March.

I wasn't on here back then but I loved Barbee and his players. I was more upset when he left than anybody else. He could have turned UTEP into the Memphis of CUSA.

Are you proposing that it is even possible to get worse? All that we need is for just one of our six team sports to post a winning record and the new AD can literally claim improvement.

If Park is hired and works out well then great, I will be happy becuase that means that UTEP is doing better. But the fact that an Athletic Department, which is currently reaching all-time lows on-the-field when viewing all of it's sports teams as a group, and is also approaching all-time lows in attendance as well, wants to now promote the #2 from within, just does not make much sense for a department with such wide spread failure under it's current system.

Bob Kustra just retired as president from Boise St. He cared about athletics. They invested in facilities, salaries and brand image and look at the results. UTEP has not invested in salaries, branding and look at the results.

UTEP athletics is a giant dumpster fire right now and it is all because of 3 people who have been former UTEP Miners in some way shape or form and came back here. Bob Stull was a coach here and became AD, Kugler a former player and HC that made UTEP football the worst program in NCAA football, and Floyd a former assistant coach and now a HC who has the most resources to work with than any other mens BB HC. And has done completely nothing here. The UTEP family hiring is not working out at all and it is time to freaking stop and go with an outsider. Adjusting to UTEP and EP is not rocket science and anyone from the outside will have no issues with it. UTEP is about WHO you know, not WHAT you know and its getting frustrating.

It is amazing what can be accomplished by having a President that cares about athletics. Diana is in lala land with athletics and just let Bob do what he wanted with no expectations from athletics.

Barbee, Keitha, Sadler, and Billy Clyde were outsiders who adjusted easily and had success. For instance, we didn't go hire a former Sandra Rushing Assistant instead of hiring Keitha.

I just don't understand the concept promoting from within a losing program and right now the UTEP Athletic Department is the definition of a losing program by every non-APR measure.

Promoting from within on a losing Program, mainly because they have UTEP ties, would be just as bad as say promoting Brian Natkin to Offensive Coordinator if we fired the old OC......... Oh wait, we did do that and the results on offense are worse now than they were when we were playing schools like OU and UofA.

It's been stated before and I'll restate it These discussions and solutions on our board are heartfelt and meaningful, but there is no indication and never had been that anyone (Natalicio) is listening or cares. The problems and solutions are pretty obvious, but there's no reason to expect anything but more failures.
Every year I have high expectations for basketball and it now appears to be the same old song; different verse. These last two losses were two different kinds of hurt. One that got away and one that was a humiliating embarrassment. Guess that shows our versatility.

None of us just what Parks might do. I just hope in his interview he had a plan to reverse the direction we are going!
If not he does not deserve the position.

I think she has figured out that UTEP fans form a circular firing squad when it comes to UTEP sports. But with that she knows there is passion. She's not tone deaf. Not meeting academic standards is more important than wins and losses.

There are colleges back east in the A10 and Big East who produce NBA talent but can't do anything come Feb. and March. The frustration crossed thousands of miles.

Fans would rather have winning teams vs. high graduation rates.

But a university president or chancellor would have a lot of trouble maintaining a college with a poor graduation rate. Micromanaging every department is not how a person considered one of the most influential in the country reaches that level of recognition.

UTEP already has a poor graduation rate. Plus, athletes make up a small percentage of the student body.

Natalaico was named Time's 100 influential people.

James Comey and Demi Lomato were on that list as well. Not saying it isn't impressive, but the lists are very subjective.

I still remember when UTEP made signs saying they were a better University than Harvard and Stanford.
