Glad to see the UNM series back on the schedule in 2021 and 2022.

"The UTEP Miners have added the Houston Baptist Huskies for 2019 and have scheduled a home-and-home football series with New Mexico for 2021 and 2022, FBSchedules.com has learned.

UTEP will host Houston Baptist at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas to open the 2019 season on Aug. 31. The Miners will pay the Huskies a $325,000 guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract obtained from UTEP via a public records request.

Houston Baptist played a developmental season in 2013 and officially began playing football during the 2014 season. They are a member of the Southland Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

The UTEP Miners and the New Mexico Lobos will play a home-and-home series in 2021 and 2022. According to a copy of the contract, the two schools will meet at Sun Bowl Stadium on Sept. 25, 2021 and at University Stadium in Albuquerque on Sept. 17, 2022.

UTEP and New Mexico first met in 1935 and have played a total of 67 games. The Miners won the last meeting 31-24 in 2014, but the Lobos still lead the overall series 35-30-2.

UTEP and New Mexico State, which play on an annual basis, have completed a contract for their contests in 2018 and 2019. Those games are now set for Sept. 22, 2018 in El Paso and Sept. 14, 2019 in Las Cruces."

The 2022 schedule is a perfect model of what UTEP should be playing in the ooc every year. Two teams from the MW, a team from the Big 12 and NMSU.

I like these future OOC schedules and they give our Coaches a fair opportunity to be succesful. They are also relatively easy compared to what some past UTEP Coaches have had to deal with. As an example, here is what Charlie Bailey had to face during his final season here at UTEP: at Oregon, at Kansas State, at Arizona, at TCU, at Hawaii, at Fresno State, at Rice, and the home games were against Tulsa, SMU, New Mexico, NMSU, and San Jose State. Bailey only got 5 home games that final season and had to play 7 road games, including 3 money games. All 12 games were against D1 teams, with no easy 1AA game to play.

Incredibly, Charlie Bailey won 5 games against that ridiculous schedule and just barely missed a .500 season by losing in Overtime at Fresno State.
