UTEP vs NMSU

Even Golding said he was out coached. After four years is that acceptable? Does that means he can’t coach better, or didn’t put in the effort for this game. Either way neither is acceptable. He won’t resign so he needs to be let go, if he can’t get this team to the big dance. I do not see the talent on this team to compete on that stage.
Senter hired him, Dimel, Terry, the soccer and softball coaches! He needs to go
As well.

This is probably the best team he could ever assemble. He was able to maintain a few players over several years and add a few decent players. Next year, most of these guys won’t be here, regardless of who is the coach.

Who is impressed with KJ Thomas so far? Ahmad Bynum looked pretty good until Saturday. These are the type of recruits he would get to replace Frazier. We will still be at the same level. Able to beat the bottom 150 of D1 and win home games in conference. That’s it

New conference; new leadership.

You're being generous. Frazier missed dunk 2 minutes in signaled the roll over. We were trash in the locker room.
I know. And that was just a bit of foreshadowing of what was to come a bit later. But then after the missed dunk, he went and hit back to back 3s not long after that.

There seemed to be a shift at about the 15 minute mark, I thought. It’s whatever though. They were not even near up to the task Saturday night.

Yep. I thought the shift coincided with when Carpenter entered the game. UTEP had no answers defensively for either Carpenter or Filipovity. Having both on the court forced Kalu away from the high hedge and into the corner. He had no chance defending Filipovity, but Golding has no other options at the 3/4 position, other than Jones, who was overmatched as well. Offensively, Camper is so inconsistent, and Bynum has regressed a bunch. Where is the guy who played against Louisville? He has obviously been scouted by opposing coaches, which is a big difference from JC ball.

Personnel wise, there is a lot to like about the group Hooten was able to hodge podge together. With 11 portal transfers, it took some time to gel, but there are some good pieces there. For Golding, you have to question his ability to either identify roster flaws, or be able to recruit to address those gaps. Either way, that is a fatal flaw. We already have a good idea how this roster would do in a conference like the MWC. The really discouraging thing is that this is probably Golding's ceiling in terms of assembling personnel. No bueno.

It’s just one game. The overall sentiment is what I have been saying. UTEP has a guy in his 4th year that can’t sweep NMSU. NMSU has a guy in year 2 that can blow out UTEP in front of a sellout road crowd.

Despite this, still have the cries of people accepting mediocrity and stressing patience. Hasn’t worked for us 1 time. Not once.
I don't think waiting until the end of the year is stressing patience. If and when we don't win the conference tournament, he can be let go immediately after. If that happens, we shouldn't waste any time. We need to have our replacement fast. I don't think Senter will be as swift as he needs to be though.

Parting ways right now doesn't really do anything. All the coaches worth hiring aren't leaving their teams midyear to come coach us.

Senter and Golding should have been gone last March.. i thought maybe he turned the corner a little with better shooters, but if Golding can't get this derailed train back on track and win the conference tournament he needs to go 100%. We have one year to buffer the move to the MW. I wouldn't let Senter choose the coach either.

Spot on!

I think we all agree Golding got outcoached, and has got outcoached many times. I still ask the question -- has he ever out-coached another? He's not good at recruiting. If he can't out-coach, what's left?

Senter should be talking to assistant coaches that can recruit right now, like Terry was during his first stint at Texas or Barbee at Memphis. That way when the season is over, a new guy can come in and hopefully bring with him some of the talent he had already recruited.

Senter won't do it though...

It’s only 3 games into conference play so let’s not panic just yet. The next test comes from this road swing which is considered one of the tougher ones due to the travel needed between Liberty and FIU. Liberty will be a tough one especially with their loss to La Tech. FIU is being a bit sneaky by purposely having the game on Saturday at an earlier time to not give teams much rest after the Liberty game. I hope for 2-0 I expect 1-1 and I would definitely question if the wheels came off the bike for a 0-2.

as the old saying goes."its never to early to panic."
Coach Golding has one foot in the exit door and other foot on a banana peel.
Last Saturdays game was a total bust and He acknowledged that fact.
I believe that Golding goes if he doesn't win the conference game.
But on the other hand, Its not how you start, its how you finish.

Whenever KaneFan posts, UTEP1966 posts minutes later telling us how much he hates him. Alot of energy directed for what? Could be spending it chasing down more minor league players at the ballpark dugouts Autograph Boy.
I never said I hated anybody. I don't have hate for anybody. It didn't take energy to type a simple sentence.

Not sure what other gibberish you're talking about. Strange post. It looks like this was posted from another one of Kane's burner accounts.

Alot of energy directed for what?
Pot meets kettle.

This is the issue. Not to single you out, but you will say this again next year and the year after that, as will a few others on here. This is the same reasoning for holding onto Mike Price and Tim Floyd for too many years. This is what Cowboy fans say every year (Next Year is the year).

This does not help. This is repeated every year. Just because the Miners may come out with a winning record at the end of the year is very small in the scheme of things. You have to put in perspective that we are in a lousy conference that is a 1 bid league. We are not doing well in it from looking at it for the past few years. We are headed to a much tougher conference, where we would most likely be in last place as our loss to San Jose State shows.

You have very low expectations, and not making the required changes just keeps this going on a loop. We just lost a game that we should have won. Those are games that you have to win if you want to go forward not just stay in the same position year after year.

Being a Rah Rah guy does not help. We gave Dismal an extension too quick and he ran the team into the ground. Bronzing is not improving the team, and you will see this when we do play those tougher teams on the road. UTEP has been so bad for so many years that you have gotten used to it, and are satisfied with mediocrity.

I spoke about those living in that bubble, and unfortunately you have been in it too long. UTEP needs changes, and being satisfied with the loss to NMSU, UTAH Valley and San Jose because they beat a bunch of other bad teams is only a recipe for disaster going forward.

So my question for you, is:
What would you be satisfied with this year?
Is it really that bad or are we overreacting? Yes this game was terrible but the team has been fighting and winning consistently. Most of the conference play is still ahead of us and this could shape out to be a great season. Let’s wait before called for Coach Golding to be executed before seeing how this plays out.

I think it's a mix of both. The Miners have the ability to go to the NCAA Tournament.

UTEP66, I was at the NMSU game and it was horrible watching the game snowball into a beat-down, but I remember thinking: "man, those asshole trolls on MinerDigs are all getting a chubby and really enjoying this. I think that engaging them on here is what they feed on. They don't speak for the majority of UTEP fans but they sure like to pretend that they do. I'll be at the next game. Hope we do well on this road trip.

Nah, man, no one enjoys watching the team they grew up idolizing get embarrassed. It’s tough to see something you care about fall so far. If calling out the truth feels like trolling to you, I get it, but at some point, we’ve got to stop settling for the mediocrity we’re handed and actually speak up. It’s not about hate, it’s about wanting better. Maybe one day you’ll feel the same and join the conversation, because change doesn’t happen if we all stay silent and pretend everything’s fine.

Yep, exactly my thoughts. The trolls love it when UTEP loses.

I’m not sure why you felt the need to split my post into three parts, but here’s the thing, the administration does monitor this board and social media. If they see fans voicing their frustration, it can push them to make changes. On the other hand, if everyone just pretends everything is fine, there’s no incentive to improve. They’ll just keep taking advantage of the situation.

Does it matter how I post?

First of all, how do you know the administrator monitors this board and social media?

But you may be right! At the press conference to announce the new basketball coach, you and Kane's names will be mentioned because of your posts.

On the other hand, if everyone just pretends everything is fine, there’s no incentive to improve. They’ll just keep taking advantage of the situation.

Take advantage of what exactly?

You must live in a bizarro world if you think a few troll posts on a message board is going to change anything.

I can say from my experience on the nmsu board the athletic department does monitor fan boards and some of it does get filtered up to the AD. It is an easy way to see how the core fan base is reacting to decisions and events. Same thing for the NIL management.

Luckily the core fans aren't trolls.

I am sure (if anybody from the administration reads these posts) just laughs and shakes their head at some of the things written on here.

How about this?

You and 10 friends at the next UTEP basketball game have banners that say "Fire Senter and Golding".

I bet you that you won't do that.

The issue is that you can say that every single year. You don't know how many times I have seen Vegas say the same thing and the season end in great disappointment. Then say the exact same thing the following year.

No one enjoys calling out the team when they lose. Every single person on here wants them to succeed. The issue is that some on here live in that bubble and can't take it when fans are just tired of the same thing over and over. Going to the game and Rah Rah it up is great, but when you get beat down by 30 at home in a game you should be competitive and win to actually show progress, then getting mad because the fans on here are mad is asinine.

If the bubble people want to stay in has mediocrity at best in it, and they are fine with it, great, then don't go crazy on here when the others actually want change and improvement. Fans have every single right to complain because UTEP every single year does the same exact thing. I would argue they are better fans because they want the team to improve.

There does not become a point to where you should not support and hope for the best for UTEP, but in no way should people get mad when the fans start to get frustrated with what is in front of them and no change is happening. I have said it before if you are not, and not lobbying for change, then you are the bigger issue than the supposed fans that complain about it.

Seriously, when was the last time the Miners have not let us down? I am finding a hard time remembering it. Should we still have Price and Floyd coaching? Should Senter still have a job? Again, not making changes when you need them decimates the program, as it runs it into the ground and you have years of what we are seeing. Changes need to be made.

The problem is the trolls state the same things over and over again. They are silent when UTEP wins or say the win is against a bad team, etc.

If UTEP won by 30 on Saturday, the trolls wouldn't be posting.

Exactly. We’ve seen this time after time. UTEP wins home games, they beat bad teams and eventually they will crash out in the CUSA tournament. Then we get the “wait until next year” posts.
