UTEP vs NMSU

What do you have to go on but past performances? This is a repeated failure of UTEP teams year after year. Yes, you are rah rah and can't accept that UTEP needs changes. How many 30 pt losses does it take you to realize that? What about the Perennial Power UTAH VALLEY? NMSU is not exactly giant killers. You act like their wins against poor competition are extreme feats.

We are in a bottom feeder conference and we never come close to winning it. Do you really want to take this exact blue print into the Mountain West so we can get decimated. Wake up.
Go Miners beat Liberty!!

This Miner team can be pretty good. This Miner team can be pretty bad. A 29 point loss to UVU and a 28 point loss to NMSU are puzzling azz whippings.

Those two losses are more indicative of the tendency to submit and just roll over than a talent issue. I’m absolutely certain the Aggs are not 28 points better than the Miners. I am absolutely positive UVU is not 29 points better than UTEP.

I hope the Miners get that figured out. Why the quit in the middle of the game? It was so apparent to me against the Aggies that the Miners quit playing. And not that far into the game. Why?!? You lose by 6-8 on your home court in front of a sellout crowd against your longest standing rival and you can get away saying, “It just wasn’t our day”, but not 28.

I think it’s a sign of a deeper problem, and I think that it has to be figured in order for this team to make it all the way through a conference tournament. It’s one thing to put a game or two together, and a whole other thing to put 3 or 4 together with an increasing degree of difficulty as the tourney goes on.

With that said, I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome of this latest road trip. Nothing more can be asked than to come away 2-0 from a trip out east.

It’s be nice if Utep wins the regular season, but all that really does is most likely mean we’d get an NIT bid if our BPI is in the top 125. The Miners need to just stay hungry and avoid the let downs like last week against the aggies. I’d be fine with a top 3 finish and playing well going into the conference tournament. NCAA or win the whole NIT!! Those are the only two things I’d be content with to merit keeping Golding!

I would ordinarily agree with you on that, however, at the moment as a 3 seed, we’d be playing friggin Liberty. I don’t think it’ll stay that way, however it just points to how among the top 6 seeds, anyone can beat anyone. Throw in WKU as the current 7th seed, and it goes even deeper.

Honestly, I think 2nd seed sets them selves up for the best possible scenario. Get the 8 or 9 seed for an “easy-ish” quarterfinal, come into the semi fairly fresh.

Obviously, that’s best case scenario, imo.

The NIT won’t have Big 12, Big East, or Big Ten teams. Only ACC and SEC teams. It’s watered down trash. Being selected for the NIT is nothing to be proud of. NCAA or bust.

Did I say just being selected for the NIT or did I say winning the NIT or going to the NCAA? Read again.
Think about it. The NIT won’t have teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East. It’s watered down and isn’t the same as previous years.

Last year, 17 teams declined NIT invites and (16-17) Xavier was given an at-large. The tournament is trash and will be even worse this year.

I get ya and I don’t know if that’s true about the big ten, big east and big 12 teams. I haven’t read that and we don’t know the teams this year. All I’m saying is unless Utep not just went, but actually win the whole NIT would it give Golding a possible pass going into next year. I’d obviously prefer NCAA even if it’s a 1st round loss.

Where's your research?
Just look it up on the internet. It is easy. Kane gave you the answer. Instead you insist of giving answers without looking it up by feelings rather than what has actually happened in the last year.

But if you and Miner79 need someone to spoon feed it to you: Go to the internet and look up NIT changes in format for 2025. Then you will see this:

The NIT will give the ACC and SEC two auto bids and some others will get one.
This is the tricky part, you have to read further and see that the Crown Royal Tournament was created. What that means is that it was birthed by FOX. FOX's tv partners are the BIG 10, The Big 12 and Big East. Therefore, just like Kane said, it is extremely likely that teams from those conferences go the the Crown Royal rather than the NIT.

Simple look up on the internet gave the information. Rather than just asking where someone else's research came from you can actually do some yourself.

Nowhere does it state this: "The NIT won’t have teams from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East."

Moral of the story is Golding needs to get this team to the NCAA. Especially since I guess the NIT is not supposedly the same anymore. So not even winning the Golden Corral Royal Caribbean Uber Eats National Invitational will due, I stand corrected!
Senter: Today I am delighted to extend Golding's contract by three centuries due to his prestigious domination of the GCRCUEANI.

And you know the thing is Senter has and can lay down the implied law: Get in to the top 2 tourneys or we part ways.

He did do it with Dimel believe it or not when during Covid UTEP just had to beat UNT and they were in a bowl. Dimel blew it, of course. I remember listening or reading an article and it was clearly stated Senter was not happy with Dimel blowing a winning hand against a diminished opponent who didn't have their explosive wr and other players.

I would hope that Senter would do that, but he hasn't shown such a tendency so far. We only got rid of Terry because Beard hired him away at Texas, not because all of his teams wasted the significant talent he assembled. Dimel should have been fired after failing to make a bowl game in 2022, yet was kept on only to have a worse season in 2023.

If we don't win the conference, the conference tournament, or make a post season tournament season I have no intuition as to whether Senter will do the right thing and fire Golding or give him an extension for having a good winning percentage.

Happy the Miners won two road games since the NMSU debacle. That’s a great sign of this team’s fight.

That said, nothing changes — they’ll have to win the conference tourney to get into the dance.

And sold out rivalry games matter — a lot. UTEP has too few die hard fans. Games like the NMSU game can bring new fans on board. If you win.

Plenty has changed. This team shows a life and fight that the previous teams have not. That much is clear. This team can and does win

For crying out loud folks. I'm about to abandon this site again. Not that I expect anyone to care or miss me, but want to put my 2 cents in.

UTEP sports has been on life support for over a decade now. It's been truly awful. Both major men's sports have been virtually unwatchably bad. Some of you can't admit that.

Now, both are showing some signs of life.

Football had some moments this year, and recruiting is looking very promising.

Basketball is looking better. These guys are watchable, and actually fun to watch at times.

These are good things and some of you can't admit that.

There is still a lot cause for concern as both coaches have not clearly shown that they are prepared for this level of competition. Both sports have still kinda sucked at times, and both have shown rays of light. I think next year will tell on both, assuming Golding returns. It's mixed results and it's totally valid for each point of view to think they are right.

Some of you apparently are absolutely obsessed with other posters to the point you must literally sit by your computer waiting to respond to them. There's no one that would waste their time with this site if they weren't a fan. We all want success for UTEP sports, we just have different perspectives on whether we're headed in the right direction and some of you can't respect that. Try having a little respect for fellow fans varying opinions and outlooks. It's fine to be rahrah. It's fine to be doom and gloom. It's not fine to spam the board just because you feel the need to put the other fellow in his place.

Uh, no...you obviously mean well, and you probably have good intentions...but, no my friend, not everyone that haunts this site is a UTEP "fan!" There's a collection of known trolls here. Their sole purpose is marginalize and negatively influence the Miner program, Miner fans, and Miner reputation. Why, you ask? That's for another post, but trolls are present everywhere that people communicate throughout the world media. Sports, politics, or whatever...if you can't or won't recognize them, it's on you.
Go, Miners.
