WAC basketball better than CUSA

Wow that has UTEP has the cusa champion having to play in the playin game to play the overall number 1 seed. I would rather not play in the tournament if we had to play in a 16 seed play in game. Cant argue though cusa hoops sucks we deserve no better than a fifteen seed.

Very early prognosis. Let's see how we develop our very, very new team during the season, how injuries play out for us and opponents and how our won lost record plays out. Right now, three and possibly four of our five losses are attributable to projected tourney teams. Not saying we win out...but it's early.

Let's go over it again for this year: Lunardi doesn't predict the champion from one bid conferences. It's simply who is in 1st place at the time of his projection. Is he saying he thinks UTEP is going to win the tournament? That UTEP will be the autobid? Probably get the autobid? Deserves to get the autobid? No. He's only saying that as of today, UTEP is currently in first place in CUSA. That's it. So, he thinks a middle of the pack, somewhere around .500 team in CUSA would just barely be worse than one of the WAC favorites.

If you were to ask him, I'm sure he'd say La Tech, MT, or UAB would be the favorite and probably somewhere between an 11-13 seed.

Lunadri puts a lazy mans effort into his projections. Does 0 work to truly project the field. By solely looking at who is in first place after the first week of conference play is worthless.

I know he is plugging in standings. It's not unrealistic that we will receive a 15 or 16 seed if someone other than La Tech or MT win the conference. If its UAB or Western Kentucky we might slide into the 14 seed. Last year UAB finished with an RPI of 130 and received a 14 seed.

I don't see what the big deal with ODU is. They are in the same boat we are in. They have a higher chance of losing a road game and dropping into the 200+ than they do of getting inside the 100s.

All of this is assuming there are no upsets in league play. If one of the top four get upset by one of our many 250+ RPI teams then we are looking at 15 -16 seed regardless of whoever wins the tournament.

Why can't we put a different spin on this? CUSA is the best one bid league in D1 basketball? :p

In this conference who know what will happen. UTEP has a weak schedule, lost to the WAC's best team...twice and decisively, blew the best chance to make a statement against a major conference team,, lost to struggling Norfolk State in the home tournament and barely got past a questionably coached UNT team. To hell with RPI at this season. UTEP needs to play to their strengths (which is the guards), improve rebounding (major reason why Rice and especially UNT, were able to stay in the game), improve perimeter shooting, finish plays and take those free throws like they were gold (UTEP got into the double bonus in the first half against UNT, made their FT's, and put UNT in a deep hole by halftime).

I doubt utep will win anyways, but I'm saying the only way CUSA gets a 16 seed is if a team wins tourney with losing record Period!

Now that it's all said and done looks like CUSA and the WAC are even

NCAA
WAC
15 seed CSU Bakersfield

CUSA
15 seed MT

NIT
WAC
Regular Season Champion
7 seed NMSU

CUSA
Regular Season Champion
7 seed UAB
