Walden's Offense versus Dimel's Offense

Playing devil's advocate....UTEP was Dimel's third stop as an FBS HC and he's been in the coaching business prior to Walden being born. Yet, he produced similar numbers and had about the same game management skills as someone who essentially just started.

Dimel had little to no room to grow as coach. He was what he was. Walden has plenty of room to grow. But, will he?
Dimel was not a good hire, but also year two was a troops are massacred year. Dimel was playing practice players. But I also remember that was some of the best inspired play during Dimel like playing tough against UAB.

Overall, very disappointed with the loss. Similar to the SU game, we allowed a winnable game get way from us. I see this team fighting hard every time we compete and like our intensity. I see our players still believe in the coaches, which is very important. The defense has been playing great the last few games and have kept us in several games. The offense and special teams need a major overhaul. It was unfortunate to see Locklear go out on that dirty play. Had he remained, I think we would have won the game. Our punter needs to hurry up and do a better job punting. Our kicker is inconsistent and both have cost us games. I agree with bringing an experienced OC who is more creative and can improve our offensive lack of productivity. This team is more disciplined and hope we can improve and maybe get a couple of wins before the season ends. I also hope we address our issues and bring in some impact players via the transfer portal or juco during the offseason. I’m not giving up on Walden yet, but hope he makes the right adjustments and we see major improvement.
On a new OC, it would not matter. Like Dimel, and others, Walden calls the offensive plays. It is highly unlikely he would let those duties go.

I honestly think y'all need a chill pill. A LOT of guys bailed once Dimel was let go. They didn't even wait around to see who was hired. Scotty gets hired and has to stop the bleeding quick. So, what would you do? Personally, I would have done the same by bringing in guys familiar with my system and hope that holds us over until I get get the right guys in next year. Sure, he has stuck with guys familiar with the system too long. I understand that too.
I feel the defense has seriously improved every game. Holding ANY team to 14 points is cool. The offense NEEDS linemen. No one can do crap when the defense is in the backfield when the ball is snapped. The dink and dunk passes are because we can't protect crap in the backfield. We could have used Hankins this year, but that fool bailed on us to get 5 carries a game.
Scotty does need to let the OC call plays and mix up the lineups to see who performs better.

Aside from that, I believe we are headed in the right direction.
I think we’ve all already picked up the system and we’re not in any of the rooms. It’s a super simple scheme, nothing complicated at all. Anyone can pick up the system easily

Walden's Offense versus Dimel's Offense

With good reason, Dana Dimel has become the standard for bad offenses here at UTEP. I don't know how many times that I've read this season that Walden's offense is almost as bad as Dimel's. I counter that it may be worse. Below are the numbers comparing Walden's offense so far this year with Dimel's offenses year by year:

Walden. 320.7 ypg. 17 0 ppg
Dimel
2018. 307.7 ypg. 17.7 ppg
2019. 329.2 ypg. 19.6 ppg
2020. 348.1 ypg. 23.0 ppg
2021. 392.2 ypg. 29.8 ppg
2022. 348.8 ypg. 24.4 ppg
2023. 362.2 ypg. 19.9 ppg

To be fair to Scotty he is averaging slightly more yards per game than Dimel did in his first year: however, in the most important function of an offense, scoring, he is slightly behind. And he is behind the rest of Dimel's offenses. In my opinion Dimel had a bigger challenge to overcome his first season. Dana inherited a team that had gone winless, and the transfer portal back then wasn't what it is now, making it much harder for a team to reinvent itself in a single year. Walden took over a squad that wasn't quite as bad, winning three games last year, and the current transfer portal allows you to bring in transfers that don't have to sit for a season. Still, his offense can't manufacture as many ppg as Dimel's initial squad did.

To make things worse, after six painful years of enduring Dimel ball, Senter knew that fans wanted a more dynamic offense. That is what we were promised when Walden was hired. Yet we've been given an offense that's possibly worse than Dimel's. That should have been an easy bar to clear.

Now Walden deserves more time to try to build his team here. But in this early stage I see no signs of improvement over the previous regime.
I’m surprised we’re even averaging that many yards a game. Like really surprised. I don’t see it

This guy brought in 70 new players to his team. Is doing at a school with less fan support and money than here at UTEP.

Sorry bro. Not gonna argue with you. I like what I see and feel for now. I know where I've been the last 40 years. This "feels" different, and in my eyes (my friends as well) we are doing better.

Go find someone else to bait. It ain't hapnin here today, bruh.

OT Mayoral Candidates

Well, if the guys that brought us the Chihuahuas, are redoing Kress, redid the Mills and Center Building, redid the Plaza Hotel, donated tens of millions to the medical school, donate tens of millions to the dental and nursing school, the Fountains at Farah, are UTEP's biggest philanthropists, are the biggest donors to the Miner Collective, brought us professional soccer, brought back the Amigo Airshow and are amongst the biggest givers to charities in town are the bad guys - then I don't want to be with whoever the good guys are.
