This is the only theory where expansion makes sense to the Big 12. Each B12 school currently hauls in 25 million per year in TV revenue. Far more than any G5 conference or independent not Notre Dame. Their tv contract stipulates that each additional conference school added will bring in an extra 25 mil to the league per addition. Instead of doling that 25 mil out to incoming schools, the league will barter with incoming schools to accept less revenue money, say 5 mil, and distribute the difference to the existing conference members.

The only question is how low a sum should UTEP accept to join the league. $3 million???

Well, UTEP gets about 200k with our new C-USA deal so let's bid 201k and see who can beat that.

UTEP should bid $200,000 or whatever the hell we currently make with CUSA. We can make up the difference in revenue by hosting the likes of Texas, OU, Texas Tech and Kansas St during football. I'm sure during basketball season we could get a couple of sellouts when Kansas West Virgina and others visit the Don. I know this all a dream and we would be very fortunate if we can backfill whichever AAC or MW school gets picked.

Think BIG folks: UTEP should consider including a Sun Bowl invite for the # 3 team vs. a PAC 12 team with a payout of $5M and bid a modest $10M to join. However there should be an increasing value each year until full partnership is achieved in five years. A two for one deal ...

Can anyone top that???

Well, UTEP doesn't control the Sun Bowl BUT, Sunny and perhaps the City of El Paso should maybe work with UTEP to put together an attractive bid. Get the whole city behind it.

And then the big 12 will fall apart in the near future and we will again be stuck in the shitter!

I think OU and UT have made a decision to leave and are paving a way to make this as painless as possible on the rest. (The Baylor trouble was likely the last straw).

Lifetime free meals at either Kiki's or Chico's for all Big XII administrators and staff. Their choice.

That just might be just enough to leave them out. The conference may be asking themselves, "Do we need this historical black eye right now?" The B12 will live long and prosperous without them, as will BYU by itself, but allowing them in just tells the American public that "Yes, American football (as the cash cow of D1/FBS athletics) is more important than students LGBT rights!"

FIFY - "another historical black eye"
