Note about the 1976 IU Hoosiers 32 & 0 team: their first opponent in the tournament was our beloved Miners. It's kind of bittersweet looking back that the Miners were the first sacrificial offering for a juggernaut that was not going to be stopped by anyone.

The 1975-76 Miners did not make the tournament. Indiana beat St.Johns in their first game. Not sure what season you are talking about? Maybe 1974-75? That year, Indiana also went undefeated in the regular season, but lost in their 3rd NCAA tournament game.

You're right it's all a blur now with the passage of years but I seem to recall the Miners playing an opening round with IU. It didn't end well.

They also lost (badly) to IU in the 2nd round in '89, Hardaway's final game as a Miner.

You are spot on, but a year off that is all. UTEP got beat in 1975 to an undefeated Indiana team, which lost 2 games short of the national title.
