So now that every opponent has studied our game film, I guess I have to get used to seeing 10-12 points a game given up on backdoor cuts because we over pressure the wings and dont rotate quick enough. Yes, we will get steals every 8 or so possessions, but to me the analogy is like blitzing on every down in football, yes you will get some sacks or hurries but expect 4-5 40+ yard passes due to leaving corners alone. At some point we need to adjust accordingly since we lack the bigs to alter shots. Tydus and Sibley are not influencing drives and 60-70% of the time they foul. Gotta adjust to the hand you are dealt, we have no bigs to help our guards so why play like we do?

Agree, however I do think we have a few guys that can alter shots, but they have to be put in the right position. Blitzing our bigs out above the key is leaving the paint wide open. Somebody has to be able to help on the back side of the big can't recover. That pretty much has to be Sibley. I'm sure Golding has a decent explanation and will probably say he is implementing slowly and that most of our guys need more time to learn, but it's frustrating to watch.

I really think a zone D would have helped in the 2nd half yesterday. I just don't think we have one yet.

So many things Coach G does remind me of Haskins. That pressure D is one of them. Some of you younger folks weren't around. Eventually, our guys will learn to rotate over and trap the cutter. They're still learning. We will beat a few teams we're not supposed to beat this year because of that.

I wish I were as optimistic as you. Unfortunately the thing Coach Haskins didn't have to worry about was the transfer portal. Players aren't going to stay together long enough to learn and get better. With the ever constant rotation of players year after year, it'll be difficult for Golding to build this team to the best of their abilities.

Depth will be the key here.

It shouldn't take any coach two or three years to implement a new defense or offense. For the most part, this team is experienced by today's standards. Missing Kennedy and Agnew (to a lesser extent), makes it difficult at both ends, but Golding should be able to change up the defense, if he thinks it would be an advantage. Yesterday, when the team played aggressively on defense for about ten minutes in the first half, they were able to make a run. They came out flat in the second half defensively, and do not have enough offensive weapons to overcome a poor effort on defense. Charlotte was very prepared for the pressure, and took advantage with good passing, and solid lead guard in Young. Like TD alluded to, we will need to generate more turnovers for this defense to be effective, and overcome our lack of offense.

Biggest issue I see is we are a team of inconsistent players. Many on this team can give you 20 a night but none can do it night in and night out. Same for our rebounding, defense and overall team play. Hard to develop a winning strategy when you play this way.

I remember when Billy G came here year one and said that he was going to install his system. He wasn't going to adjust to the talent on the team because he felt like that would put him behind in Year 2.

You are correct, they are very inconsistent.

I rewatched the ODU game. We had a chance because they missed the last free throws in regulation. Thats because we wore them down defensively in regulation and because of luck.
Seems Goldings system is coming together. Now we have several winnable games coming up. I'm buying into the process.
He plays a lot of players which means more fouls to give.

From 6:52 to 1:51 in the 2nd half we were outscored 13-0 and had to rely on a missed freethrow and then a last second 3 just to tie the game. Despite the fantastic O.T. by Boum, it's our offense that is killing this team. It should improve, but we desperately need an inside presence and much better consistency.

I thought TV played his best game in a while against ODU. He’s as good as we’ve got inside. He was a little more aggressive on the offensive end and went 4-6 from the field. Onyema is providing a nice spark, too. But I agree, moving forward next year, we need a solid inside presence.

Little side note…Saterfield lead the team in rebounds with 7. And it’s kind of nice when you can say he had a bad night shooting but still hit 33% from deep.

This team just needs a major overhaul!! We need a big that can score and at least two more shooters around the 38-40 percent range

Shooting has been much better. Golding needs to steal a true big. Oneyma has upside but he needs a whole year to see better result. Bonke needs to grow into his body. I don't think he realizes how big he is? He should be dominating the paint. TV this year has been frustrating. The refs are on him like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

I think Tydus is gonna surprise us this season. During the ODU game the color guy kept saying he was surprised the miners were going inside so often and TV was hitting under the basket.
His back seems to be better and he's agile again. He has said in interviews that he and Bryson have been competing since high school.
And, gotta admit, Golding and his coaches are developing the players.
This may not be the best year, next year should be killer.

why doesnt Sibley shoot more?? Looks like he shoots a good percentage.

We are shooting 45%, 34% and 75% in conference as a team. 85% of our outpt is coming from our 3 guards.

JB and Satterfield are 44% from 3 with at least 25 attempts each. Boum is 27%. Sibley hasn't shot much, so his numbers are skewed.

Onyema shoots 75% from the floor cause he dunks on everybody.
