Come on Utep NEW AD Jim Senter. Go get him .Offer Him 1million dollar contract.

Incase you didnt know Mike Houston is current head coach at James Madison University. And he use to work for Jim Senter. It would be huge if he could land him.

Who cares what his ties are? He will make ties, this is going to take a long time to rebuild. Mike Houston is an excellent coach.

Wow. Now that is BS. You have to give more than two years, unless there is Briles-like wrong doing, grade fixing, eligibility concerns, etc., then you need to part ways. But just because he lost to Montana State twice and was a offense first coach is no reason for such a sudden departure. Montana has non-native big money folks who think they can buy a national championship.

Hey Griz nation! Why don't you all give Boon Pickens a call and see how hard it is to buy a national championship?!

Who cares? We only get the guys passed over by UT, Baylor, SMU, Houston and the other B12 and SEC teams. Recruiting ties won't help much until we start winning.

I don't care where the players come from, except there should be a limit on El Paso players. Maybe 2 scholarships per year at the maximum.

Even Montana has expectations. Shows you what a horrible job Stull and company have been doing.
Expectations are fine but sometimes they can be ridiculous. He had 13 winning seasons and only 2 losing while at Northern Colorado. He was at Montana 3 years and each year had a winning record including making the fcs playoffs round 2 one year. If I remember correctly there were some fans on here that wanted him to be the Miners coach when Price "retired". How different things might be right now for the UTEP FB program if that or something similar had happened.

So he has no recruiting ties to Texas as far as anybody here knows. Good luck with that.

Houston doesn’t seem to have Texas ties but all he needs to do is hire some asst. coaches with Texas ties. He has been impressive at JMU and will get the attention of Texas recruits. The dude has been tearing it up at JMU. The thing with Houston is he can be very selective where he goes and I doubt he wants any part of this mess. He can go to a much better program. He would be a hell of a hire though.

I am very curious to know what names that third party company has for the head FB Coach. I’m sure Senter will have his own people in mind as well, but he is going to have to start looking at candidates ASAP. If he waits till the 16th of December when he shows up he is giving the new coach less than 2 months to line up a staff and get a whole recruiting class in pace.

There has to be Texas ties.

UTEP really dropped the ball waiting so long to hire the AD. They had plenty of time to hire to where the AD should already be here in EL Paso preparing for the new coach hire. We had a chance to be ahead but we are behind.

Not meaning to be argumentative but did we drop the ball? Could we hire a coach who is currently on a staff mid way through a season? If we could he would need a staff to recruit? Could he get one? The more I think about this is an unintended consequence of the new early signing period. Any thoughts?

I believe you're right. Even if a current fcs HC was hired today, he likely would not show up until his team's season is over. Both SHSU and JMU are in the playoffs with their first games being Dec 2nd. Lose that one and they could show up on the 3rd but win, we are still waiting. An OC can come as soon as they are hired. I hope Senter will make it clear that even though he won't be in EP on a permanent basis until Dec 16, he will be hiring a FB coach prior to that. That Dec 20 early signing date for FB starting this year really bites for us.

There is no way we could have hired a coach midway through a season. Coaches are going to wait till the end of the season to see all the open jobs before deciding on which ones they want to apply for. Im just saying we had plenty of time to hire an AD to where he/she should have already been in their UTEP office getting acclimated to the job and they can start hiring process the day after the season finishes. Not like 3 weeks after.

Why is nobody saying KC Keelers Name

People have brought him up. Several times. He was on my original top 5 list about a month and a half ago when Kugs bolted.

It's likely that many people don't know who he is. The FCS doesnt exactly play under the big lights, ya know.

Anyone have any inside information on who has actually applied for the job? It would be nice to debate about coaches that have actually applied not coaches who have no desire to coach here but their name was just thrown out there by like ESPN or EP Times.

Keeler makes more sense to me than Houston, but I really couldn't say. Whoever it is needs to be a recruiter and have an exciting style of offense. He also needs to have money to surround himself with a good staff.
