Horrible. You would be hard pressed to design an uglier, nondescript and amateurish looking hardwood. You can see it on the UTEP Athletic site.

The argument there was that the "Miners" the school was named for were not coal miners. It was closer to the prospector who led around Clyde, the donkey who was the live mascot before Paydirt Pete.Eh, I don't think it's terrible, but it's not really an improvement.
It's sort of like when they took away Paydirt Pete's hardhat. Why.
Here I thought it was because UTEP was founded as the School of Mines and Metallurgy. The argument there was that the "Miners" the school was named for were not coal miners. It was closer to the prospector who led around Clyde, the donkey who was the live mascot before Paydirt Pete.
It was, but it was metal mining and they didn't wear hardhats like that. There used to be a prospector who guided Clyde. This became the basis for Pete. Here I thought it was because UTEP was founded as the School of Mines and Metallurgy.
Fan input???? That’s dumb! Here at UTEP, we just get what they think is good.
Modern metal miners do wear hardhats like that. It's a matter of safety. It was, but it was metal mining and they didn't wear hardhats like that.
Thing about this is you can vote for what you like, but it's not an election. They already have their design set. The "winner" means nothing. It's more a way to get donations
