UTEP might have been the biggest winner this round - for once. The PAC might be the bigger and better name but they are far more unstable than the MWC. Realistic or not, Washington State and Oregon State will always be looking for an out. Sure, all schools are, but WSU and OSU are more similar to the Big East schools that bailed when all the CUSA 2.0 joined. There is wanting to improve your situation and then there is the reality that you went from being in a Power Conference to being in a mid major with Utah State and Fresno State. We will always have to worry about UNLV and AFA but not in the same way.

UTEP certainly did win, by luck, but they still came out a winner. I think UNLV also came out a winner, but long term. They got a bunch of money to stay and can leave the MWC without penalty for a P4 invite, whether that comes or not who knows. Though from their fans perspective, staying in the MWC sucks. I know we would be pissed if UTEP turned down the MWC to stay in CUSA.

OSU and WSU are going nowhere. That’s why they are still in the Pac 12. No P4 wants them.

If there's anything that conference realignment shows these days it is that money talks. Everything else is like the proverbial bullshit. It walks.
They already have money and its costs $58,000 a year to attend. They’re snobs.

Nobody gives a crap about tuition. It's about the TV money for the athletics programs.

Them and Grand Canyon would the best prospects. Though I am not sure the Gaels are going to blow up their history with the other WCC schools to play San Jose St, Hawaii, Wyoming, and UTEP instead.
They’d make more money I’m sure, especially with Gonzaga gone.

It doesn’t matter. They’re definitely not a shoe-in to join the MWC. They play in their all-religious affiliated conference that they founded and can now don’t have to worry about losing to Gonzaga.

They don’t need the money. Their endowment is almost the size of UTEP’s and they have about 1/10 the students that we do. They don’t want to play San Jose St, they would rather play USF and Santa Clara.

MWC should go after Grand Canyon first and weaken the WCC and then maybe they have a shot at SMC.

They most likely can't afford exit fees and membership fees to buy in. They just bought into CUSA.

People are saying MWC is going to be paying out $3-7 million per school while CUSA is paying out $600k. No way they would prefer CUSA over MWC.
Exactly. It’s also another way of saying they can’t afford to go or that the MWC only expressed “interest” and did not offer.

Well 750,000 a year vs what will be 4-6 million a year says otherwise
You really think MW losses its best teams, replaces them with UTEP and the payout will be the same? IMO maybe 2/3 million.

It didn’t take long to search google and see that everyone not named Boise State was only getting 3.5. I don’t even think we get that much.

So... only 2 or 3x what CUSA would pay instead of natty's 4-6x ? I'd take that raise anyway

It’s not that far fetched in today’s climate to believe the payout will be the same or better. Sports and news are the only two things that are propping up cable/satellite/streaming television. TNT just signed a 3 on 3 women’s basketball league and will be airing it on Mondays and Fridays and then on TruTV on Saturdays.

If that thing, which doesn’t have Caitlin Clark yet, is worthy of prime time television 3 nights a week, then the MWC is also valuable.

I was thinking the same thing actually. However, a while back (I think it was a guy from Albuquerque), stated that the new deal with the MWC would ensure a payout of at least $3.5M per team per year (even if that amount would need to be subsidized by league funds). If that is indeed the case, it was an obvious no brainer for UTEP to jump at the chance. I'll try to dig up that article.

I think the article that quotes 6M states that MWC thinks they can get the same contract as before, but divided by 8 instead of 12 means the previous 4M per team becomes 6M per team.

It’s already been said that if they keep the number low it’ll be a bigger piece of a smaller pie. It’ll be at least 4 million per, Bank on it!

Yes, I saw that too, I know it applies for UNLV.

That’s just people hypothetically speaking though. The MWC most certainly isn’t staying at 8 teams anyway.

Who cares? They’re in a conference with FCS move ups and a better geographical fit for them.
Isn’t that what we’re talking about? SHSU saying not interested in the MW. You’re the one that posted the tweet that started the conversation.
