The lack of investing in upgrading its athletic facilities is going to keep UTEP in Conference USA for the foreseeable future. Wyoming didn't even have lighting at War Memorial Stadium during the WAC days. Now they have LED lighting:

Your obsession with LED lighting is the most random troll job in the history of message boards.

Would LED be nice, sure. Is the lack of LED at the Sun Bowl the reason for our problems. Not even close.

Liberty, La Tech, WKU, MTSU are probably their top candidates.
You can probably scratch Liberty off of that list. The profile of the school isn’t palatable and their athletics aren’t enough to make up for it. La Tech may be a tough sell to ULM/ULL since La Tech has historically blocked them at the state government level for various things through the years. WKU then MTSU are probably the ones being poached.

I think both Marshall and Southern Miss are currently receiving reduced distributions so any new school would probably have to take the same deal.

La Tech was once part of the WAC, I wonder if they would be considered for MW.

I also wonder if MW wants to get back to 10. I think they almost need to because they need to anticipate losing UNLV and another in the future to the Pac 12.

It’s a weird obsession. Ppl on this board were saying back in before we went to CUSA they not being a tier 1 university was hurting us going into the MW

We are now a tier 1 university, now it’s the weakness of the football program possibly keeping us back, and he thinks it’s the lighting

crazy cuckoo GIF

I would think LaTech has a shot at the MWC, but it’s a small one. Again, if LaTech gets in before UTEP, time to worry.

The SBC has many many central and eastern time zone options to even consider UTEP. 0.0% chance of UTEP going there

Kappy and I talked about this very thing earlier today. Texas St. Is probably trying to hold out to see if the PAC gives them an invite since they already have one in the table from MWC. Utep, NMSU and I guess now Sam Houston St. are in waiting until that decision is made. We may know our fate by end of day tomorrow guys! I hold the right to change my odds based on new info lol
Utep to PAC 5%
Utep to MWC 55%
Utep stays in CUSA 40%

Needs to be PAC 10%, MWC 90%, CUSA 0%.

I’d be great with that, I’m just not sold more than 55% on MWC move until I see invite. I’d love to feel 90% though. Utep has sent out our interest now we just gotta see if they want us.

I'm pretty much done with UTEP if we remain in CUSA. Many of you should do the same. I wish there was an organized way we could let the administration know

I mean it’s really out of their control at this point. UTEP joining another conference isn’t like you signing up for a Planet Fitness membership.

I have a confirmed inside source that NY/NJ Miner has googled the Membership Rates at Planet Fitness. I can’t give away anything else other than that NY/NJ Miner may or may not join a gym. But if I were to go out on a limb and give my personal opinion, I would say it’s a coin flip.

While this is true, it is still our administration that has had a history of bad decisions and bad hires that got us here. Regardless, I will continue to be here for the downward spiral that UTEP athletics lives in.

Let's not forget MTSU and WKU would prefer to be in same conference due to their rivalry known as the "100 Miles of Hate".

If the Sun Belt invites only WKU, they will leave in a second. It means almost nothing. Everyone is looking out for themselves only.

And look at how far we’ve fallen. We are by far the weakest of the 8.
UTEP has never invested in football. For whatever reason they continue invest in basketball.

UNM got lucky because when the MWC formed, football and tv money wasn’t that big of a deal. UNM would be in our situation had they not been taken then. Look at them now. They spent $60 million in Pit renovations 15 years ago and were an afterthought in Pac 12 expansion. They spent on basketball, when they should have spent it in football.

By now it's obvious that Texas St is going to have to be the first domino that falls. After we see where they are going things will be more clear. The Pac 12, MWC, and AAC have reached out to Texas St according to the internet rumors.

Best case scenario for us: Texas St goes to AAC. If this happens, it increases our Pac-12 chances. This scenario also keeps two MWC spots open should the Pac 12 not work out.

Second best scenario: Our chances also increase with Pac 12 if Texas St goes to the MWC. This scenario decrease our MWC chances as one spot would be filled and only one would be available should the Pac 12 not work out for us.

Third best option: Texas St goes to Pac 12 which increases our chances for the MWC but essentially locks us out of the Pac 12 as we will be far down the pecking order when they poach the MWC again.

Obviously, the worst scenario is that we are passed up by everyone and stay in CUSA.

I'm starting to think that MWC will almost have to expand to 10 teams because of the impending future departures. If I'm correct, scenario 4 becomes less likely and MWC becomes more likely.

These are just my thoughts. I don't have any sources like others on here do. Good night. It would be nice to wake up to some good news for once.

I think they MWC is looking at bringing in football only schools to increase their media money. NIU and Toledo aren't going to do it though, but it was worth a try. UTEP has a good shot at getting in as a full member, as long as Texas State rejects the MWC offer.

I was just thinking. Wouldn't it be funny if UTEP can't move to another conference because they can't afford it?? It would be a Utep thing to do. Utep used all of its money on the locker room.

What schools would go for only football? I don't think any schools would want to do that. The MAC schools have done a really good job of sticking together and I don't think they would half-heartedly leave for one sport.

Not a lot of athletic departments can absorb a conference buyout - a decent amount of them take loans out. UTEP’s funding would come from that $5 million surplus and then probably a loan to pay it off over X years.

It’s basically negated if we get a better TV deal

Nonsense, UTEP could always pay overtime. The fee should not be an issue, the issue is, does the MWC or Pac12 see any value in UTEP

I highly doubt this. He’s a UTEP fan and besides having awful grammar I highly doubt this scenario is playing out. If money is an issue, I want to be positive and say that a new TV deal, and the prospect of playing quality opposition year in and year out could be the defibrillator shot to the heart this athletic department needs.

Who is this person? What credibility does he have??
Looks like just a UTEP booster so would take that info with a grain of salt. About as much credibility as the Texas State fan who posted they're about to accept the MWC offer that everyone is freaking out about.
