Guys, don’t fall for the fools gold.

If the Pac 12 didn’t want UNM, they sure as shit do not want UTEP.
While I agree UTEP to the PAC is a pipe dream, desperation is a hell of a drug.

PAC has so far struck out with the AAC teams, UNLV, the remainder of the MWC (although that agreement they all signed might not be worth the paper it's written on), and I don't know if their pride will let them go the FCS route.

We'll see what happens with TX ST, but the options are dwindling. Which should be the athletics department's slogan.

There’s no way the Pac 12 takes FCS schools.

What I believe, is the PAC and MW what to increase their league to 10 teams each. That to me makes the most sense. However, which teams to pick becomes the "big deal" question. I see the PAC only interested in FBS schools and I can see UTEP, NMSU,Texas State or SHSU in the mix for the three schools to accept. I believe the MW would be incline to add FCS schools in their mix and maybe UTEP or Texas State or both.
In short, look for each league to acquire three teams each and that's the reason for the delay in any news coming out. But, I expect something by Wednesday.
Sit tight and hold on, the ride is going to worth the wait.

Fak, I hate it when you make a fairly good observation. Kind of like when Trump pointed to the Democrats after his win in '16 and stated "..it should be Bernie up here and not me..." (remarks about Dems ousting Bernie for HRC).

Man, do we have some retards on X. You can't search for anything UTEP related without the same morons popping up. Maybe the reason we aren't getting the invite is due to the IQ level of the most frequent posters.
UTEP Twitter has quite a few interesting characters.

I was about to ask if a conference required us to increase our budget where does the money go. Then I found this. Maybe someone else here will find it interesting.

I wonder if the announcement today is being delayed due to the Nation Wide Verizon outage?! Lol

I would think no news means it ain't over, or at least the conferences are still stringing us along. As soon as UTEP admin know it's over I believe Heather Wilson is a savvy enough politician to get out in front of the news and say something like "After being pursued by multiple conferences, we have decided it is in our best interest to remain in CUSA for the time being. We are always watching realignments and will continue to make the best decisions for UTEP moving forward"

I'm torn between feeling optimistic that the Pac-12 sees us as a more appealing option than Texas State or accepting the reality that if Texas State isn't on their radar, we probably aren't either.

What a time to be 0-4. Wild if we end up in the Pac-12. This is better than the So. Utah/UTEP Classic we had a couple of weeks back!

Texas St and UTEP football are about equal. They have only been decent this season and last. UTEP basketball rapes Texas St basketball, both in records and arenas. Texas St is in between San Antonio and Austin, and located in the Central Time Zone. That is what makes them more attractive than UTEP.

But yes, if the Pac 12 really doesn’t want TSU, they definitely don’t want UTEP.

It's getting close to closing time at the bar. We're ugly, lonely, desperate, and have some personal grooming issues. But there's still a couple guys hanging around checking out who's left because they're also desperate. We're just hoping one of them gets rejected enough times AND has has had way too much to drink AND is desperate enough to take us home instead of just going home alone.

….wondering if we are also infected with some LTDs (losing transmitted diseases)?

Right. Pretty much what the VB coach said about a week ago on twitter\X. 😀

If that is the statement we get, she needs to be fired immediately after hitting send.

You know people like you love talking about location and that's why Utep gets left out. Texas State is near Austin and that's why it's ahead of Utep. But you know what Utep has the best location of them all. Utep/ El Paso is right in the middle of Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque. Only about a 6hr to 4hr distance from those cities. Then if you want to expand farther ,Utep is only about a 8hr to 11hr drive to Houston,San Antonio,San Diego ,Denver,Dallas, Vegas ,LA.
El Paso has Airport. Texas State/San Marcos doesn't. So I don't think location is problem for Utep. UTEPs problem is leadership.

This is stupidity right here. El Paso is not desirable because of the city itself, not its physical location.

What good does being a 6 hour drive from Phoenix and Tucson do if there’s no teams there? You think the MWC or PAC teams would bus teams from El Paso to Houston or Dallas??? Are you that stupid?

So you admit you're a MAGAT and you expect everyone to believe anything you have to say?
I was using what is the truth as an example and comparison -didn’t know I was admitting anything to you? But go ahead and use it to prove whatever you need too…lmao

UTEP has something has a few advantages that UNM doesn't at this very moment: a super cheap buyout and the availability to make the move. UNM just signed that agreement to stay in MWC. Pac 12 is currently getting to desperation mode for the 8th member which is the reason we have a small chance. I've already said the chances of this happening are slim but this is as high of a chance as we will ever have.

You always talk about things to do and how El Paso is boring. You know when I use to live in El Paso, I remember people from Albuquerque driving down to El Paso because there was more to do in El Paso. If America ever builds those speed trains El Paso will be the perfect location. El Paso will be in the middle of everything . Location isn't a problem or Utep. Utep has the best location.

I am talking about before they signed the agreement. On 9/12, the Pac announced the first of the MWC teams, if they wanted UNM they could have told them to wait and see what happens with their other targets, later that day. They also could have offered UNM the same time they were talking with Utah State.

UNM was never mentioned by anyone that they were being considered. If you were a UNM fan, wouldn’t you rather be with the Pac teams? There’s probably only a few delusional people that actually believe the MWC is better than the Pac 12.

The Pac had multiple opportunities to get UNM if they wanted to.

Again, you don’t get it. El Paso is perceived as a city filled with Mexicans who don’t speak English and where illegals come to enter the US. Add that in with very little D1 recruits for the city of it’s size and that’s why schools like Texas St and Rice are more desirable than UTEP.

UTEP has the best location? Yeah, okay. Your paint huffing has to stop.

I live in reality, some others don’t.
Ummm, no. You use "slight of hand" dialogue. You are the Glen Beck of this board. Use of real time current events to mold a dialogue that fits YOUR narrative.....hatred of anything UTEP. Your type of crappola was sowed during the early Natalicio days of the early 90's. God, the vitriol was bad; so bad that professor and radio personalities just spewed bad stuff using then UTEP grad data to attack her.

Now, look what she created? A tier 1 school.

But Senter is a bad communicator and it hurts the fan base. He needs to step down or learn more effective techniques.

One question if you have 1000 dollars to toss away , Where do you think we land.
I bet ( not my desire) is C-USA. (Sadly)

I don’t know who Glen Beck is. That’s great UTEP is a tier 1 school, but this board was created to discuss UTEP football and basketball. Not to discuss PolySci and Accounting tests.

I'm already getting stoked for that first conference game with Gardner-Webb some random Tuesday night in October a couple years from now.
went on about how not having a consistent football program, not even mike price could do it!

watch, we get consistent, but king of a smaller irrelevant hill. All comes down to $$$ and since it appears as if there's no alumni who wish to donate even $5 a month (imagine 5,000 minimum a month for 12 months is $300,000 we don't have) we'll always be behind. No big doner will help, other priorities I'm sure.

CUSA. Is anyone even surprised? This new administration has shown no signs of upping the commitment to athletics. Our President stated she only expects a 50/50 chance of winning games and is only committed to her Star Wars program. Our AD is useless and is following the path of least resistance until he decides to retire in 10 years because he held to no standards by his boss.
Star Wars? Stuck in the 80's much?

She knows how to get that defense budget pig trough money....that DOD and NSA scale program being on of them.

SteveK just said on SportsTalk he expects Utep to remain in CUSA.
Yes, that is a possibility. However, it does not change the fact that the Pac7/MWC need teams. Pac needs 1 team. MWC needs at least 2. Even if these conferences get their 8 teams, that only leaves 7 football games, meaning they need 5 OOC games. The SEC, Big 10, and Big 12 only play 3 OOC games. Not like there’s a bunch of teams looking for games.

If you only have 8 conference members, that’s only 14 basketball games. I guess you could play some teams 3 times in the regular season. 8 is the minimum and they’re not setting themselves up for a solid conference.

These expansion teams gotta come from somewhere. If Texas St declines, that’s better for UTEP, but they’re still in the mix even if TSU accepts the MWC invite.
