Nightclubs and alcoholic serving establishments have absolutely exploded in El Paso. Former governor, Rick Perry loosened up state alcoholic laws to bring in much needed state revenue, the war in Ciudad Juarez has pushed investors to invest more heavily in El Paso, Maquiladoras have come back since moving to China wasn't such a good thing after all, interest rates are favorable for investors.....the list goes on for reasons for the newest scenes in El Paso nightlife. As for the underside, sadly, every morning the news starts with a vehicle crash, which results in death too often as of late. For you Sun Bowl folks, take note.

EP411 lists the top 5 night clubs to stay away from.

I like the new places that have opened up like Twin Peaks, Ojos Locos and Tilted Kilt. I would like to see more upscale bars like the Yard House and Champps in El Paso. I think El Paso can support these type of businesses.

Was in town this weekend for a brief visit and spent a couple of hours at The Pershing Inn.
I like the place (the building itself) & it's location. I like what's happening in that entire area - like south where a Pizzeria is going up on the corner of Tularosa & Piedras . Liked the Bohemian Bar Cafe Joe Vinny & Bronson(?). Best is the coffee roaster you have there on Montana - 2ten Coffee - very classy, very tasty. Had a nice "cortadito" there and left with a pound of The Choice blend. Hope 5 Points sees a bright future.

The University impressed me the most! What a tremendous change from what I saw even 6 years ago.

ROT, I have tried to bring Yard House to El Paso but they do not think our demographics would support their concept. I am working on bringing another Twin Peaks style concept but it is more upscale than the ones that are currently here. Stay tuned...

The Bistro, the PI along with Ray's Backyard are some of my favorite haunts. Grew up in the area and nice to see the revitalization. Always worth the drive for me.

WestTx, it's a shame that some of these companies don't see the potential in El Paso. When you look at our region El Paso, Juarez and Las Cruces, we have the demographics to support these type of businesses. We have a growing population of young working professionals who want to see upscale bars and restaurants. I travel all over the country and believe El Paso is ready for these type of businesses. Best of luck on your business venture! Keep us posted...

Trust me, I not only am working on trying to bring new restaurants but also on new retailers. I constantly approach Ikea, Bass Pro Shops and everyone's favorite In & Out Burger. They are all hesitant because like everyone outside El Paso, they do not know how amazing this city is. Getting Alamo Drafthouse, Ruth Chris, Gander Mountain, La Madeleine, Kona Grill, J.Crew all help improve our image among other retailers. Picture them like children, they want to see someone else do it first and if it looks safe then they will jump in without hesitation. BTW I "harrass" In & Out monthly about coming and they are opening in the Houston market and want to capture that first before they consider us. The issue is they deliver all their ingredients fresh weekly and each restaurant has to be 250 miles from a distribution center. We are ~400 miles from the closest one.

What happened to the water park they were gonna build near cohen stadium. Also when does construction happened for the new arena?

Not sure about the water park, last I heard is the deal is dead. As for the stadium, they Cith has to first purchase all the land for it.

well thats crap. I think what El Paso needs is a better Casino. a Resort type casino. Here in Arizona the natives. Have casinos all over the place. They are about to build another one right near the football stadium here in Glendale.

Casino's are illegal in Texas.......I have always thought that someone should purchase the old Santa Teresa Country Club and golf course and turn it into a spa/golf/outdoor resort. They could offer outdoor activities such as horse back riding, ATV's, skeet shooting, along with a golf course, spa and good restaurant.

I've always hoped/dreamed that the Tiguas could eventually get approved and they would construct a Sundia Resort Casino (Alb) type of golf/spa/hotel/casino destination complex at the Butterfield course.

That would be great if that ever happened.

Eagle Pass does have a casino, and it's been upgraded immensely the past couple of years.
When did Ruth's Chris get to EP?
Lastly, EP NEEDS a HEB!

Ruth Chris will open next Summer. HEB has looked but the issue is they have an internal development company so they would need to purchase their own land to develop a shopping center and grocery store.

Never mind, I found it in EP Inc.

"In other rumors revolving around Foster’s real estate investments, we hear that Ruth’s Chris Steak House is headed to The Fountains at Farah.

The upscale restaurant chain known for steaks prepared in a 1,800-degree broiler was founded 50 years ago in New Orleans, when Ruth Fertel bought a failing restaurant, Chris Steak House, and added her name.

Now it has more than 130 locations in the U.S. and other countries. The menus posted on its website don’t have prices and you know what that means: If you have to ask, you can’t afford it."

And further down some owners of Sunland Mall may bring REI outdoor to El Paso as well.

Fili, the water park was killed cuz the two water park firms basically wanted the city to pay for everything. They were trying to pull one over on the city and the city wasn't having it, which I agree. Now there are talks of making Cohen Stadium into an outdoor concert venue, which I think is very cool. As for the arena, the city is now taking RFP's(Request for proposals), so the ball is starting to roll...finally. The thing that pissed me off about the arena is that they are now talking about it only having a capacity of 10 to 12,000, when it was originally set at 15 to 18,000 on the proposal. That was the whole point of the new arena, to bring in bigger acts with a bigger arena than the DHC. Now we're talking about an arena the same size or even smaller than the DHC...SMH.

Yeah Chico's would never expand nationally, they are too small minded. If the owner can get over his grudge for the west side, he would make a killing if he were to open a Chico's on Mesa somewhere, what an idiot. Expand nationally, pfft...yeah right.

Thete is actually a chicos tacos in phx.. Its a different but outside the building it says Chicos Tacos. I stopped inside to check it out but it was different. I wonder if the owners in El paso know about it.

I have seen Tote in Houston.

I want you all to know that there is a ton in works to bring the retailers that people want to El Paso. Among Paul Foster, Richard Aguilar, Hunt, MIMCO, and River Oaks I know for a fact there are new retailers coming to El Paso in the next couple of years. I say "couple" of years because Hunt has their North Park development in the NE that will be top notch. River Oaks is developing a 64 acre (10 acres bigger than Fountains) shopping center in the NW that I am sure will be nice. Aguilar has the Monticello development and already has Alamo Drafthouse. I wish I could say more about these developments but there are NDA's that prohibit us from disclosing who is coming.

Love El Paso and wish I still lived there - very excited to hear about the cool things coming- but will also add that what makes EP cool and unique is all the really cool local joints there - and not like all the big cities that all have the same big city choices..... So just asking for balance and keeping the EP charm..

I completely agree and I love seeing all the new breweries opening up. Ode on Mesa by UTEP has done a tremendous job with their beer and the food is really good (the chef from Tabla is running it). Deadbeach Breweing by the baseball stadium looks really cool and there is also another one I beleive is called El Paso Brewing Company that is opening up across from the City building on Texas Street. It is place like this and all the other bars and restaurants that will bring downtown and the local flare back. I saw recently Tacoholics was on the Cooking Channel; another local guy killing it in the food scene. (Congrats Jesse Pena on the success of that place)

Over the last five years or so I have seen some new energy and positive changes in El Paso. It's great to hear that Ruth's Chris is opening in El Paso. I would like to see Fogo de Chao, Pappadeux, Cheesecake Fcty. and a top notch barbecue place. Top Golf and a nice water park would be great additions too. I also like what some local entrepreneurs have done with new places like Stonewood, DLox and Craft & Social.

There are always rumors of Cheesecake Factory coming and possibly going in Cielo Vista Mall's 2016 expansion. Great Wolf Lodge has been to El Paso several times and I have a feeling that they will build one of their water park resorts one day in El Paso. (see link below if you dont know what Great Wolf is) and as for TopGolf that is the most realistic of coming to El Paso. I know for a fact that El Paso is on their radar and are looking at land all over town. We may get their smaller version which I assume is only 2 stories instead of 3 but TopGolf is TopGolf.

(Great Wolf Link and turn the sound off the commenator is annoying)

What about lifetime fitness or a LA fitness? I actually emailed lifetime fitness saying they should open up in el paso.

Same here in Albuquerque, there are 5 casino's here in town and they are always full plus they offer really good concerts with all genre's. Tickets are priced too bad either.

Why hasn't Chico's gone to the West side? I've always wondered about that.
