Congrats to the Chapin HS Boys basketball team for advancing to the Elite 8. This is more impressive considering the transfer of KJ Lewis.

He should have stayed and helped them to win a state championship

I was looking at the playoff bracket as this got me curious. I noticed that they are now playing a 34-3 team from Richland Hills. It will be a very tough game.

I also saw that Americas and El Paso High were also in the playoffs. Chapin is the only one remaining.

I don't understand the 5A division 1 and 2 difference. It looks like Andress and Canutillo are in the same division but got sent to Division 2, and El Paso, Americas and Chapin got sent to Division 1.

Can someone explain to me why Division 1 teams get sent to Division 2 playoffs?

I'm not for certain but I think it's based on enrollment and the amount of schools within each division across Texas. 1A-5A are broken up into 10 divisions now. Somebody correct this if inaccurate please.

It is based on enrollment. A team can win district and still play the other district champ based on the enrollment of their respective districts. It used to be then district champ would automatically play the other district’s 4th place team regardless of enrollment but now it almost doesn’t matter where you finish as long as you’re in the top 4 of the standings, even though winning district is a worthy accomplishment.
