OT: Sun Bowl

I didn't say they were right. Universal Healthcare would not be a socialist system, but it's the "trigger" word to get a lot of certain types all fired up against it.
Using the term socialism is meant to gaslight it's the bogeyman.
I am truly interested to hear how people think universal Healthcare will work and benefit everybody (patients and Healthcare providers).

I dont like our healthcare system the way it is now. Too much corruption and uncapped capitalism with Pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and insurance companies. I thought Obamacare was supposed to help with some of those things, but instead it just made things worse.

looking at the History of the Sun Bowl. Interesting 1983 is when the attendance jumped and it has been steady until this season. 2010 Miami vs Irish was highest with 54,021.

other interesting facts about the Sun Bowl

* In advance of the 1949 game, Lafayette College turned down an invitation from the Sun Bowl Committee because the committee would not allow an African American player to participate. This bid rejection led to a large student demonstration on the Lafayette campus and in the city of Easton, Pennsylvania, against segregation.

*The bowl's first title sponsor was John Hancock Financial, who entered a three-year, $1.5 million partnership in June 1986.[14] This came at a time that corporate sponsorship was not common for bowl games,[

Fine Fili I'll just tell you since you don't want to do the research for yourself. The Sun Bowl was expanded to 52k in 1982.

where they get the money to expand?? maybe some of the old miner fans can answer??

“The current press box was added in 1969, and the stadium reached the capacity of 52,000 in 1982 with the addition of the north end zone stands and the expansion of the east stands. (The south end zone is still vacant, with the ground of the bowl covered with the school's logos.)”-Wiki

“1980 – The University of Texas System Board of Regents and El Paso County completed a complicated land-swap deal in which the Regents agreed to pay for a 20,000 seat expansion to the Sun Bowl Stadium. Construction began in 1980, but was not completed until 1982.”

The Sun Bowl was first played on January 1, 1935, as a fund-raising event for a local service club, to benefit underprivileged children and to finance improvement to the El Paso High School Stadium. It has grown into El Paso's number one national attraction.

On October 18, 1934, at a meeting of the El Paso Kiwanis Club, Dr. Brice Schuller suggested that the club sponsor a football game on New Year's Day matching an El Paso High School All-Star Team against a worth opponent. The motion was passed unanimously. It was decided to ask for public suggestions as to the name of this annual game, and the name “Sun Bowl” was submitted by Doctor C. M. Hendricks, who became the first Sun Bowl Association President. The following year a weeklong schedule of events was added to the Sun Bowl festivities, and four other local service clubs (Rotary, Lions, Optimist and Active 20-30) joined the Kiwanis in coordinating the entire “Sun Carnival” calendar.”

Heard it was actually the Washington State AD that pulled off getting CMU to come.
