OT: Sun Bowl

Easy for you to say. Their future is on the line. You see what just happened?
Oh, the other thing: WSU's starting tackles "opted out" and, as a consequence, WSU's star QB was running for his life all game and he got injured. The selfishness of those two players put their teammate at greater risk. They're supposed to be a team.

Which coach hurt your feelings?
None, but which 18-20 year old hurt your feelings? Y'all want to act like it's this generation that's selfish and only looking out for their best interest. Reality says they learned this from the 50-60 year old coaches.

The coach for CMU left Colorado St before their bowl game to be the Florida coach. The 10 win team he left behind ended up getting their asses handed and suffered their worst defeat of the season.

What happened to being a team?

I’m not the one who keeps comparing coaches to players.

Coaches are the players teachers. If coaches are selfishly looking out for their best interest then how can you not expect their players to do the same.

It's already bad enough a coach will often break a contract with years left on it. The least they could do is at least finish the season. Until that problem is addressed and fixed don't expect much commitment and team talk from 18-20 year olds.

Honestly only reason I watch Sun Bowl is because it's in El Paso. Actually all the Bowl games are boring I haven't watched one this year. Has anyone watched any Bowl games??

I watch a bunch of them. If the score gets lopsided I stop watching but enjoy most bowls. If 2 P5 schools are involved I'm less likely to watch.

I'll always watch any bowl UTEP is in. Loved the NM Bowl and pulled hard for the Miners. So disappointed with the last fumble because they had a real shot. Proud of the way they played toe to toe with a very good team.

The players’ parents are their primary teachers.

Coaches are adults/professionals.

It doesn’t really matter anymore since college football is now professionalized with the portal and NIL — you got your wish.

Adults and professionals are free to be selfish and look out for their best interest. 18-20 years old students have to be held to much higher and stricter standards. Makes sense, I guess...

Why do you read my posts then? You have a fascination with responding to me. I guess that makes you just as dumb.

Once again I'll dumb it down for you. Coaches leave for another program and don't coach their team in the bowl game. Has been happening for years. You want to bash a kid for doing the same selfish actions. Where do you think they learned it from?
There’s not a comparison. When you’re operating the cement mixer on Monday maybe it’ll dawn on you that your comparing apples and oranges

Getting an education, attending a top tier college, learning from elite coaches, playing for a high profile school — all these things should have value for a young athlete.

If athletes are fearful of injuries in bowl games, shouldn't they also be concerned about injuries in CCG or the last game of the regular season.

As for coaches leaving before bowl games, that too can be disruptive to teams.

How about new rules for recruiting timelines, coach hiring and firing, etc.

1. Do away with the early signing period.
2. No head coaching changes allowed until after Jan 1st.
3. If you're on a full schollie you play in all your teams games.
4. Portal can be entered Jan 1st

That sounds fair. If you expect a player to play in every game then I expect a coach to coach in every game.

I for one like the Sun Bowl on CBS. If they moved to ESPN, there is no way the game would be played on New Year’s Eve. Would probably get pushed to before Christmas and get lost in the shuffle. I was speaking to a rep from the Independence Bowl at the CUSA championship game and found it very refreshing how he explained how they follow very closely what the Sun Bowl does because they are both so similar…tradition, home grown and not ESPN affiliated. As he told me, the Sun bowl has been their model because they are so successful in doing what they do.
What if the game goes to FOX?
The field looked tacky . THE CMU in the end zone looked awful.
It would be easy to blame @ TonytheTigerSB since they only rent the stadium. They should invest in something like this:

Another thing: There was a lot of rain water in the concourse area (press box side and east side). It was to the point where two guys are squeezing excess water into the drains. @UTEPPAthletics should invest on better concourse and field drainage.

How about a retractable cover for the Sun Bowl. A giant umbrella if you will. One that can protect the crowd and the field. One that could reflect sunshine in hot weather if needed. Could turn the Sun Bowl into a protected practice area as well. Just a few wires and some unbrealla material should do it, right?

Great ideas all

You have no idea my age but you’ve demonstrated several times in here that you’re a complete idiot
As you as well. Complaining and crying cuz an 18 - 20 year old doesn't want to play in a bowl they find meaningless. Sounds like you have a sad and pathetic life.

Yeah, I really don't see that happening

I usually look forward to the Rose Bowl every year. But with the number of Ohio State wimps QUITTING on their teammates, I don’t expect this game to be that exciting.

I’d like to see no portaling allowed until after second year. Freshmen splitting because of a lack of playing time is soft.

It amazes me that people that cry socialism when it comes to medical coverage for its citizens are the first that want to impose a socialist system for their favorite sports organizations.
You can't deny people their freedom just because they're 18 to 20 years old and you don't want them to leave your favorite team.

Looks like we already have a candidate for post of the year!

Love this!

Did anyone here transfer colleges during their days as a student? Or know someone who started off at one college before finishing their degree at another school? It happens all of the time. And guess what? I've never heard anyone complain that some student who started out at Whatever State University better damn well earn his degree there, and not transfer to State Tech U. However, with student athletes, many feel that they shouldn't have the same rights as other students, and be forced to stay with the same school they began their freshman year at, or be punished. Why?

Oh, and complaints about student athletes transferring shouldn't even enter one's mind without wanting athletic scholarships to be guaranteed instead of renewable year by year. How is it fair that a school can decide not to renew a kid's scholarship because they like a different kid more, but the kid isn't allowed to decide that another school might be a better fit for him or her?

I hate the fact that Cowing is transferring just as much as the next guy. It doesn't mean that he should have less rights than any other student.

Didn't mention socialism and didn't deny anyone their freedom.

A socialist college sports system would mean the players partly own/control the teams/schools.
