The MW isn’t done losing teams. Even if they add us. We’ll be at 8. And like you said no one wants to be an 8 team league with one defection away…

Senter said on Sportstalk not too long ago, about a month ago or so, that he’s aware fans want to go out west. And that he would like to renew those western rivalries. But in order to do so, an invite had to be extended.
I’m sure they are pushing for the PAC or MWC but at the end of the day we are UTEP. We have to wait until UNLV decides and all that before we are extended that invitation.

Nope but there will be western fcs schools moving up that will most likely catch up to us.
What can Senter do? Is he going to call the MWC and say “We’ve got an 0-4 football team and a basketball program that hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament in 14 years! When are you sending the contracts?”

I personally think It helps a bit that Walden came in and I believe even though the rebuild has started off slow will get it going with his infectious energy. He also gets out there and reaches out to Boosters. I’m sad we lost to Stupid SUU as well, but I expected us to be 1-3 so it’s just a small difference. I didn’t expect more than 3 wins, so we’ll see. Next year I expect Walden to take us Bowling though. This year I expect Golden to have us competing for a CUSA Championship or at least he needs to be competing for one. The Sun Bowl needs a face lift and I hear money is being raised for that. We finally have an NIL. That still needs to get better though. I expect to hear something later this week or early next week about Utep going to MWC!!!

There are local sports guys not sleeping trying to "scoop" the UTEP side of this story. ESPN college sports writers have Kappy's cell number and I'm sure they reach out daily, if not hourly, if he has juicy bites.
It's a story that has been lying dormant then reawakened every time during realignment. Uncle Bob had a leaky ship with personnel or staff leaking info and this site (and Kyyote's Den) was the beneficiary of such info; we got spoiled by it. Them days are over. Love or hate Senter or Wilson, UTEP has put a steel 3 inch plate on stuff getting out. It's not bomb shelter proofed, but it's holding. What Senter does do is variate his story over time, but that's after the fact. Senter is not sleeping and neither is Wilson, but we're just not going to know until the MW and PAC12 say they're done for now or "UTEP is not candidate", which the MW has done in previous years, and with relish at times, just to rub our noses in it.
The only good news is that the MW has not come out with a full throated response about UTEP not being a candidate.

Just a reminder if I'm not mistaken any new schools from FCS that now announced they are moving up have to pay a $5 million entry fee.
I know the pack has a large war chest but the mountain West is fixing to get one hell of a big payday. The mountain west receives the buyout from each team which I believe is in excess of 10 million per team and additionally the pack will have to pay a poaching penalty for each team it takes per its contractual agreement with the mountain West for the schedule arrangement
We thought the same when Kugler was hired. At least with Dimel and his offensive style, or whatever you want to call it, we all knew right away there was no way UTEP would compete for a crown. Golding befuddles us in close games with his pendejadas and blows games. Barbee fought when there were 5 seconds on the clock and was adamant on what NOT to do during such circumstances. I want to see Golding clean that up when conference play starts.

Yes. With Utah St. reportedly moving to the PAC, that means the MWC will be due somewhere in the range of $140M. For reference, the PAC's war chest is around $250M.
If Hawaii joins CUSA then I think Utep should stay. That would be a great addition. Who else can CUSA poach from the West?? Sac State and I think Idaho we would be good.

What does Mountain West offer with only 7 teams left?? UTEP gets to keep playing in East coast time zone. CUSA needs to go in offense mode. Pac 12 and Mountain west is dead.

I think you're giving Senter too much credit. He has proven to be sleeping at the wheel many times over his tenure and he has always somehow seemed to make the wrong decision every time he's had to make one. If UTEP does get an invite to another conference, it will certainly not be by the doing of anyone in the administration. It'll be because we're the best option out there.
Senter has made bad coaching hires and made bad decisions with them. Everything else is fine. Jim Senter is not the reason why UTEP is in CUSA and currently remains in CUSA. He won’t be the reason (if) the Miners end up in the MWC either.
I'm not giving any credit. I'm saying an entity, advocates, and higher up tightened up UTEP athletics information that the SID department controls, or under Bob Stull's tenure, lack there of. This site was a pillar of UTEP "desmadre" weekly at times. SID does everything but UTEP equipment managers had more information than they did. He is no Bob Stull, that's for sure but UTEP fan base and boosters busted Stull's huevos badly, too.
MW has to play this well and adding UTEP and NMSU might not be the best decision for the MW. We both bring losses and a horrid crime scene that is in court still and literally left a crime trail on I-25. Do they need that now? No.
I know everyone is eager to move on to the Mountain West. Honestly, I'd love it if it came down to a choice between us joining or them folding, and we gave them the middle finger.

Me too, but you have to think that whatever variant of the MWC that comes out of all this is going to want to make use of that huge war chest. Pretty much the same approach as the PAC2, but happening at the next level down. I'm not sure if some type of MWC merger would work to still take advantage of that $$$, but again, the end game has to be to preserve that windfall.
It’s possible 2PAC could strategize by inviting schools like Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming, which might lead to the dissolution of the Mountain West. Taking the war chest down with it.
Hey let’s not get UTEP involved in nmsu’s criminal mess. While I don’t mind having them as a conference mate, UTEP’s move to a better conference should be evaluated independently. I know our FB and BB teams are a work in progress, but we should not be seen as a tandem deal. Let’s not forget, UTEP and nmsu have only been conference mates for the last couple of years. I know we were old conference mates in the old Border Conference, but that was ages ago. I would rather team up with TX State instead, but not sure if they’re interested in making the move.
