Why is Artis on the bench for 7 minutes at the end of the game?? I can't understand why Floyd always benches players when they are doing well and getting in the groove. I don't give a crap what you Pro Floyd homers have to say. We suck period.

Flaggert and Touchet should NEVER PLAY EVERRRRRR. Complete waste of scholarships. The only reason I don't include Vint is he is the "best" big man we have because that is the position our coaches put us in.
Poor coaching? It was the box-and-one defense Floyd instilled, along with Lee Moore's aggressive play, that got UTEP back into the game and with a legitimate chance to win in the end. Artis wasn't playing because the combination Floyd had on the floor was working. If nothing, his mistake was having Morris out there. His shot selection and piss poor transition D hindered towards the end. Other than that, I thought Floyd did a fine job coaching tonight.
I agree Morris is too loose with the ball. MTSU is not very good. There is no reason we should miss so many free throws the last 6 seasons. Anyway we will NOT beat UAB.

I say it's poor coaching and there's a five year record to prove it. I was one of the biggest advocates for hiring Tim Floyd, but I think that if he doesn't do well this year, we need to get someone else. Daydreaming only works in Disney movies.
Have to disagree, the announcer was raving about the coaching for both sides but I think more for Floyd. If our guys hit those 3's and those freakin rebounds at the end, we come out with the win. Frustrated as hell that we lost but we put up a fight, I think we showed improvement and these type of games will prepare our younger players for the post season, I'm ok with it,

First thing I'd do is never play Caldwell, Touchet, Romine, or Flaggert again. Then I would minimize Morris' PT. That alone would be worth 10 or more points a game.
Next thing I would do is force Matt Willms to eat a hot dog in the first half and 2 nachos in the second half of every game so that he gains weight. He still does us no good next season weighing 100lbs.
Last thing I would do is sign one player somewhere in the WORLD that is 6-8 and 240 pounds even if he can't make a layup just to eat some space inside. Lord knows the staff doesn't care if you can make a layup or free throw to play in a Miner uniform.
I (and a ton of other fans) are full of ideas and we don't get paid 600k a year for them.

We are not good and the talent level is at fault. Floyd has to recruit his way out of this or we will be middle of the pack again next year in C-USA.

I think the slide has been so gradual that it's almost imperceptible to most. I'm not gonna bash the team or CTF here, but I have to be honest, I just haven't seen good basketball in quite some time.
I disagree. Great coaching. I'm sure that DA got the message, and we won the game. So, win-win.
I've been very critical of this team and Floyd this year, but our defense kept us in this. On paper we had no business staying in this game. Your statement that we suck period is based on all of our disappointmeets on how the season has gone, but Utep played well enough to have a chance to win on the road against one of the top 3 teams, I wouldn't say that sucks!
This program should be in total Dallas Cowboy mode right now. Every game we win, we lose. Every game we lose, we win. Every loss hopefully brings us closer to what needs to be done this offseason. The last thing we need is go on a little run and have Floyd think, "Well, look at all the new faces we brought in this year. It took a little while, but we finally started to gel at the end of the year. Maybe we can make a run next year." Or worse yet, if you believe that Floyd's gone no matter what, for Stull to think, "Well, look at all the new faces we brought in this year. What does any of this matter?? I just want to see this team improve and get ready for the one week in March that can still turn the season into a positive the conference tournament .... I am hoping over the rest of the season this team and its players find their roles and we take off at the wnd
Sure a win would have been great, but does it really matter in this one bid league. We've all said it's about the conference tournament, what the hell would a conference championship do for us overall. In fact, I would rather go into the tournament as a 3rd or 4th seed than be the top dog with a target on our back. I've accepted we are not that good so it's all about the NCAA tournament for me, the big picture...not some game in Mayberry.

About 2 weeks ago I was all in favor of Floyd retiring but now I admit that I should just wait until the seasons end (as others here have said) to see what happens with this team. The team has improved and if they keep this up and the effort remains strong, they could be a real factor in the conference tournament. MT is a decent team and as we all know, road wins are difficult to come by. I expected the Miners to get soundly whipped last night but instead, they hung in there and came close to pulling off the win.
I too hope they come around. They really need to stop getting in to those early holes 10-15 points behind in the first 3-5 minutes.

Again, why should we be satisfied with waiting till the end of the season and praying that we win the CUSA tournament? Have your expectations reached such a low point that you don't care how the regular season plays out?

Why isn't Jones playing more to help with rebounding and blocking/altering shots?
Sure, we can put three or four games together in March to win the tournament. None of our performances in any of the last six conference tournaments leads me to believe that will happen, but of course it is possible. Granted every single team in the country has that same opportunity, right?
So, in essence, our once great program is now left to hope we can scratch three or four decent performances together to scrape in. Our RPI is in the 200's. Many say the rpi is irrelevant because it is all about March anyway. Well, our RPI is a very good indicator of where our program stands. We are basically irrelevant in the college basketball world at the moment. Sad but true.
The air has been sucked out of the program. Not sure why it happened, but it did. Floyd didn't forget how to coach all of a sudden but something is not working. Every poster on here wants a thriving, successful basketball program. Unfortunately, we don't have one now and the slide has been ongoing. It really has nothing to do with losing last night. The program's trajectory doesn't look good and hasn't for some time. My opinion anyway.
Well said. Its sad that Middle Tennessee has a better program than us now. They beat us last year in the CUSA Tourney and they beat us last night. Floyd has been here 6 years and we are below Middle Tennessee. I want to make the NCAA Tourney with a good team that has a chance to advance. If this years team gets LUCKY and wins the CUSA Tourney we are going to play a top 3 seeded team and get slaughtered. This years team is not a good team. This years schedule is a joke and we are struggling. But its going to be the same old thing if we lose in the CUSA Tourney........next year K. Jones and McSwiggin are going to be studs,,,,,we will be a top 25 team, etc... Its amazing all the free passes and excuses Floyd gets here.
Until you have coached in the NBA and coached at Iowa State and USC, you have no reason to question his coaching decisions. He wasn't ranked the 18th best coach in the country for no reason. He is the 2nd best coach we have had here at UTEP. He knows what he is doing. He is building a program here. Next year!!!!!
The MTSU team three to four years ago was the best MTSU ever put together (quality of player wise), and UTEP beat them, at their place. So they are definitely beatable. Floyd always starts out man to man and UTEP's man to man has horrible perimeter implications because the guards don't pick their man up quickly during transition....and BOOM! It rains 3 points. It happened twice with NMSU, Norfolk State, Wash. State and 2nd half against UNT. MTSU survives because of Potts and Upshaw and Floyd let them take control early just like they did in the CUSA tourney. Shut down those two and there is no MTSU. However, UTEP will not play them again due to the FAU/FIU schedule rotation this year (unless we get them again in the CUSA tourney).

The old we are a much better team than our record indicates excuse. I am sure those teams you mentioned above wanted to do things differently too they would have won by an even bigger margin. Good teams find ways to win. Every team would be undefeated and win national championships if they did this, would have done this, if it wasn't for this.
if if's were fifth's we'd all be drunk.....it's safe to say that after 6yrs we've see the best that Timmy has to offer i.e. the Peter principle has been reached.
