I know right, because it will be so easy to find a coach that will accept $200,000 and we all know UTEP can afford to pay a football coach that much.
Not hard at all to find a basketball coach for 200k a year. Scott cross as UTA was making 200k a year until he got an extension last year. He now makes 250k a year. It's a one bid league it's stupid to throw the money we do at basketball. Football is the sport that matters. We have to go all in on football.
Name one college basketball coach that currently makes $200k.
So we should just give up with basketball just because it is a one bid league?
I have to say we are more a basketball school than a football school. Basketball is in much better shape than football (and that's not saying much) and with the right basketball coach great things can be done here. With football it will take a while to get things back into shape.

Even that is low. I am not sure why some of you want to throw all the money at football and just forget about basketball.
What is basketball going to get us? Best case scenario we become NMSU and become a perennial tourney team with a sub 13 seed. Basketball has done nothing for NMSU they can't find a conference because their football program sucks. We are in a one bid league where the regular season is irrelevant. Investing in basketball has got UTEP nowhere. The only way to improve basketball is too improve football.

Like previously mentioned last night, 15 of the 68 coaches in the NCAA tournament last season made $300,000 or less. As you have mentioned about our success hiring up and coming basketball coaches none of them made more than $300,000 their first season at UTEP. During Barbee’s last season he made a base pay of $233,602 or about $264,267.76 in today’s market. Basically as I have stated many times we can get similar or better results with half the pay Floyd makes. Much more now in this weak version of CUSA.
So we just just give up then? I say with the right coach we can start winning again and possibly attract an affiliation with a new conference. With football it will take a long time for us to get back into shape.
No conference expands for basketball. The climb in hoops is much tougher than in football.
Yes with incentives and bonuses but base pay was what I quoted above. We can offer the new coach a similar contract. Let him prove himself and earn his money first.
I think if UTEP wins conference championships and wins games in the Big Dance UTEP would get an invite.
It would be easier to do than with basketball than wins conference championships and bowl games.
To what conference? The AAC of MWC aren't taking us without a strong football program. Football is the cash cow and sport that drives expansion.
Well duh, we're not talking about base pay. We're talking about salary (meaning total pay).
Name one coach that makes under $250,000. Still haven't heard one.
