Transfer Portal

UTEP did well against the Mountain West according to 247:

and Rivals:

On3 has us 3rd in CUSA and about the same in MW:

Everyone is acting like this upcoming class will produce day 1 as true freshman....
During yesterday’s show on KROD, Steve K. stated the current football rebuild would take a few more years despite the better than average recruiting rankings and next year’s fb team would be lucky to win more than four games.

He knows freshmen take time to develop.

Steve is a troll that hates UTEP and wants to see them lose. Most everyone on here is expecting 6+ wins or he’s gone.

This isn’t 1984. Today’s era of transfer portal and NIL do not afford coaches years to build. Results are expected year after year.

I think a good example would be SMU. Once they joined the ACC their recruiting started to pick up they started getting blue chippers. I believe it was last year when they started getting those recruits. Look at them now ?? Colorado kinda of the same thing. Last year they those recruits didn't help winning but now they are. I think Utep should challenge for CUSA championship next year.

Even by UTEP’s own snail slow “team builds” standards, Walden is ahead of the game. Dimel won 2 games combined his first 2 years. One was against another horrible 1-11 CUSA team and the other was against a FCS team. Walden already has 3 wins over FBS teams. There’s no reason to be satisfied with 3 or 4 wins next year.

Damn, what good is a high ranking recruiting class if most guys don’t stick around?
See, no reason to get excited or assume any player is sticking around multiple seasons. Once they play well, someone else will pounce on them. Just like Walden did to Austin Peay.

Hopefully he is replaced with some P4 guy who didn’t get enough playing time and wants to play here.

I figured he and Odom would be gone. Nothing about Odom yet. Losing Duhon hurts more than Odom would. Hopefully Walden can find a good replacement for Duhon. Duhon was a great find in the first place because he wasn't highly recruited.

Duhon was highly recruited he had like 12 offers. Odom should look at Tyrin Smith and Kelly akarie . Both had good years and went to bigger schools and were buried in the depth chart. These small school players should really rethink about transferring to teams that are loaded with talent.

The things is now players are now playing with 1 year contracts. Duhon just hit free agency and now Utep and Walden need to renew his contract or let him walk?? Maybe with Westmoreland out there is some money to spend? One player I'm waiting for his Skyler Locklear. He had a pretty good year for a young QB he might be able to go ask for some more money.

He had offers but was committed to UTRGV before he flipped to UTEP.

And absolutely no one will pursue Locklear, unless he wants to drop back to FCS.

Everyone WANTS him to win and succeed. Some don’t THINK he will accomplish that. Nobody is angry about recruiting rankings.

BTW, how did that 4* recruit from Auburn or whatever do this past season?

Power cartel teams are full of 4 and 5 star players and they are better than our zero and 1 star players of the past decade. They also get 90% of the attention from the people that do the rankings. A 2 star might actually be a 3 or a 1 but he’s not a 5 except in extremely rare cases. And yea we can all find the exceptions that prove the rule.

If you put Oregon’s team at utep under Walden he’d win the conference. They’d win it under Kug or Nord. The last time we had recruiting classes anywhere near this good was the Price years.

So in summary is anything guaranteed? No. But I’ll take the top recruiting class over the bottom every day of the week and twice on Sunday
I really believe the transfer portal needs to be limited to one and two transfers per person. This one and done, is doing nothing for 95% of the players. There is no way they are helping their development nor enhancing their education.
All these players believe they are going to the NFL. Most are not. Maybe they should think about their education and future instead of a few extra dollars. It’s not like UTEP has a ton of future NFL’ers. Maybe one or two every year. Anyhow, good luck to them! And as the saying goes: Don’t let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you.

According to 247 he had offers from Wazzup, UAB, and Marshall. He was a 3 star rating and was top 250 Texas Recruit. That's not a unknown recruit.

Eso, Fili!!! That's a point we can both agree on.
