Transfer Portal

Take someone like Cowing as an example. Would he have been drafted earlier or later if he had stayed at UTEP? His stats at Arizona were comparable, but maybe the appeal was more than just numbers. It could be about experiencing the highest level of college football. Winning three games in CUSA doesn’t exactly offer that.
Exactly. Plus, in Cowing's case he got to be closer to his child. Of course, he was also compensated very well by transferring over to Arizona. See the number below (if accurate):

If Westmoreland gets anywhere near this amount, in my opinion, the decision is an absolute no brainer.

What can Utep offer?

For sure not that amount. The P4 schools will now have $20M plus from revenue sharing to pay the players, which doesn't even account for money earned via NIL. For UTEP, my guess is that for very selective players, $50k is the high end. My understanding is that Tyrin Smith got about that amount to "play" in 4 games for UTEP, prior to self redshirting. Some BB players get more, but not by much.

All good points
