The internal deadline is the start of the first Summer session. That leaves about 2 months to get a full practice squad together.

Seeing as though Golding is waiting this recruiting cycle out in an attempt to psyche out the rest of C-USA do you think any of them find their way back to UTEP?

We want back players that went 7-11 in CUSA why exactly?
I’m not saying I want them back. But it seems like we’re moving at a snail’s pace when it comes to retooling a bare bones roster. I just wonder if these players will try to come back and whether or not Golding would take them back.

Again not saying I want them back, but you bring in a C level dude who doesn’t know the system. Or do you bring in a C level dude who’s played the system?

Not to beat a dead horse 🐴, but the issue I have isn’t so much which players Golding brings in. NMSU even brought in a decently competitive new squad in. My interpretation is that Golding will still be coaching whomever comes in. I will still be excited to see who comes in, because I’m a Miner fan, but my faith in that team accomplishing anything next year is very slim.

Joey Pewter didn’t accomplish anything with Souley Boum on his team and he didn’t accomplish anything last year with a “loaded” team. I don’t need to see who is on the team next year to know it’s going to be mid at best.

I agree that Joe Pyrite, as an Xs and Os coach, is a big part of the problem. You mention that the issue you have isn’t so much who he brings in, however that is at least half of the problem…is who he brings in.

Is he a sh!tty talent evaluator or has it been that only the table scraps want to come to UTEP? I don’t know. Either way, it’s hard to get excited about anyone he is going to bring in.

I agree, to clarify what I meant. I’m not overly concerned with who he brings in, because even though teams have proven that even with a whole new team A.P.E…. Texas Tech a couple years back, Drake last year, and to an extent NMSU; I have 0 faith Coach G. can bring in the talent or coach well enough to do this successfully. As a Miner Fan though I’m interested still to see who’s brought in.

Yeah. I’m sure I’ll be interested too. I have little faith these days in anything Miner bb.

Seems like the only guy from last year's team who may get the call up is Bynum.

In comparison, I thought Hooten put together a better overall roster in one year compared to Golding. In my opinion, Golding's biggest issue is his recruiting.

I’d rather have all high school and JC players than run it back with these same guys.
Golding did sign a couple of three star guys early, Bobby Montgomery and De'Erick Barber. Dropping Boykins likely means Barber is gone. I believe Spriggs recruited Montgomery, so I guess it is possible he could stick around. For sure, Golding better hope his new assistants can bring in at least a couple of recruits in tow.
