Transfers

If he was going to be fired it would have already happen. Sorry UTEP fans we are stuck for another year.
Yep, he will be here at least 2 more seasons. He has fooled his bosses into thinking that improvement is not measured by wins and loses. Improvement is measured by improving time of possession and total plays run from the previous season. We are showing signs of improvement even though we went from winning 1 game in CUSA to going winless in CUSA play this season .

There’s no way Dismel will be back if he goes 2-10 or worse next year. The Sun Bowl will be a ghost town next year and they will be lucky to get 25k to Tech and NMSU unless they have free or heavily discounted tickets.

If UTEP had fired Dismel and had an exciting new hire, they could probably get close to 40k for Tech. Instead UTEP will raise ticket prices for the Tech game and very few will attend because the Miners will get their ass kicked anyway.

It could be worse.

"In June, interim University of Akron President John Green said half of the $1 million that had to be cut from the football budget this year would be offset by a huge boost in attendance that would result from the hiring of new coach Tom Arth.... The team is drawing fewer spectators at InfoCision Stadium than a wet T-shirt contest would in Tehran.."

The shitty part is that should be a winnable game. If Dimel was as good as advertised we would be expecting a good team in his third year. With Tech looking down under Wells that would have been a perfect time to break the P5 curse. Instead automatic loss as usual at for UTEP.

Same with this year. I thought the Miners played okay vs Tech, who ended up 4-8. One of Price’s teams or Kugler’s 2nd could have won the game.

But yeah, next year, with Dismel coaching, an automatic L. Unless we get a bunch of outstanding JuCos or P5 transfers. Which we won’t.

That makes 6 Miners in the transfer portal at the moment. 4 of them are receivers.

Maybe someone on this board knows the answer to this question. Can a school that loses multiple players to transfers recruit more than 25 in that year to make up for the loss of numbers? I know coaches get around the 25 per year rule with pwo offers, gray shirts, etc, but the 85 total scholarship number is still in place and a school limited to 25 recruits while losing grads and transfers in excess of 30 is going to suffer in the long run.

Long was arguably the most disappointing player on our team this past season(at least based on what we expected). He struggled a lot and he lost his starting job at the end of year, including the UAB game where a true freshman started in his place. We spent 2018 thinking we were playing without our 2 best O Lineman(Gatewood and Long), but then once Long returned this year, he just wasn't very good. He showed a lot of potential as a younger player and we thought he would be our future LT, but he couldn't achieve that potential and was eventually moved to RT. Then he just struggled this season and the scary thing was how bad he was in one-on-one blocking situations.

He does have some physical tools, so maybe a fresh start, maybe even a position change to guard, and possibly a new system might be good for him for his final year. He could have provided solid depth as a Senior had he returned, but he likely would not have been a starter, thus it is understandable as to why he is transferring.

UTEP staff following this former KSU player who entered portal last year [2018]. Shifty WR. No off field issues but he did have to leave to attend personal matters at home while at KSU.
