....Tim Floyd four star recruit.

"... It looks like his stock in the recruiting circles has really risen leaps and bounds his senior year. But by viewing his mixtape above, it appears that Doutrive is a guard who is more comfortable driving to the hoops...The Zags will have to compete with both Oregon and UTEP for his services, and before you count UTEP out, just note that Doutrive spent a portion of his life in Texas. The Zags still have plenty of room on the scholarship chart, but also have a pretty loaded backcourt in the moment.

If Doutrive does choose Gonzaga, he will be choosing a school where he won’t necessarily make an immediate impact in his freshman year."

"Doutrive will be eligible to play next season and is one of the top prospects left in the class of 2017.

Doutrive averaged 22.3 points and 8.5 rebounds, earning LA City Section Player of the Year, and led Birmingham High to their first upper-division title last season.

247Sports ranks him as the 152nd overall prospect, while Scout has him ranked 67thoverall and 13th best shooting guard in their rankings. "

"...Together they are known as the Doutrive brothers. Birmingham students enjoy watching them play and they’ve been a huge help to the Birmingham Varsity Basketball Team and they’ve made huge contributions in scoring throughout the season.

On March 3, 2017, the Patriot basketball team won their first Los Angeles City Championship against Westchester 85-80. Devante put up 26 points against Westchester and Devonaire was only 2 points away, scoring 24 points that game. Just a week after winning the City Championship, the Southern California State Playoffs began and the Doutrive brothers–along with Deschon Winston and Mark Boland–would face off against the famous Ball brothers and defending state champions, Chino Hills High School. Birmingham put up a fight against the Huskies but sadly the Patriots ended up losing 130-110. The season then came to an end and the brothers will be remembered for putting up outstanding performances throughout the whole season. Devonaire has averaged 18.9 points per game this season and Devante has averaged 21.7 ppg (points per game) according to Max Preps..."

Is there any word on Gillyard's injury? If he is going to be out for a significant amount of time that may work in our favor.

Shoulder surgery would make him available for the holidays at the soonest perhaps? It all depends on rehab. UTEP players do get top notch treatment locally and out of town if need be.

Might as well save it and redshirt him and claim medical down the road.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This would be a late steal. I'd be really pumped if it happened. This is a really good player. Let's keep our fingers crossed that he wants to help UTEP get back where they belong. Go miners.

Devante is suppsed to visit UTEP 1st this week/weekend. This could be a huge catch for the miners right before the season. It would also leave open only 1 potential scholarship for next year as of now. That would shake things up again IMO. Micheal Durr, George Conditt and Jacob Hughes are all good big men still considering the miners.

Spoke to him this morning, seems like a nice kid. Noticed that Coach Floyd was talking a lot to his parents......

We're pretty heavy at two guard for 2017.
We're heavy, but gettin heavier would be awesome!
Anyone who gets treated at L&J, Kiki's or Avilas and still goes elsewhere has no taste at all and we wouldn't want him.

I heard he left without signing, so we pretty much have no chance now.

Maybe. Some kids will get excited and sign right away if they like their visit. Some will insist on making every single scheduled visit and then make a decision. I have to imagine that his Oregon and Gonzaga trips are scheduled in the very near future. We'll know for sure soon.

Stop by Dick Poe for a new car, head to the Zona Rosa for some high dick action, then sign 'em up before the tequila hangover hits.

MinerManiac is one of our legends and a good soul. Good to see you stop by again.

Gonzaga just signed a transfer recruit, I wonder if this will have any bearing on the recruiting process.
Good pickup for Gonzaga. He was considering Oregon too.

As far as Devante, all 3 schools still have spots open. There may be many factors invloved of course. These could be (in no particular order):
1) grades/eligibilty
2) coach/players
3) opportunity/playing time
4) environment
5) conference
6) NCAA tournament
7) Best chance to play with his brother.
Based on what's important to him and his parents, UTEP can offer a lot in most areas. The other schools can offer more in some areas too.

I just don't see him going to Gonzaga. Now as for Oregon, that's a different story.
